A snake. They are very clean, quiet, easy to take care of, and have the whole thrill factor associated with them. If you get a nice easy snake like a corn snake and care for it properly, it can be held by all the children and be quite the hit. Be very careful and only put the snake in a reptile cage and secure it all the time. If not, the snake will escape!

Please not a hermit crab... they need very specific tank conditions and are not pet/pets that enjoy being handled etc they are not that type of creature.. they will not live long in a classroom with children bothering them and without proper care which I do not think a very busy teacher ahs time for, and should not be left for a child to do.. since they can not have tap water you would need treated bottled water on hand AND oceanic/marine salt too... as well as the proper temps and humidty and what about molting they can burry up to 5 months while molting and must never be disturbed during that time.

A frog? Firebellies are quite entertaining for children. When I was a child, I used to be fascinated by a pet millipede in a zoology classroom. Perhaps a newt, or a gecko? Or maybe a bird? The chirping might be a bit disruptive, though.
I would think that a small mouse wouldn't really induce allergies, would it?

Rats are wonderful classroom pets, if he isn't allergic to them. Other than that, hermit crabs are a big boring due to the fact they aren't very interactive, so a hedgehog would be the better bet between those two. A lizard is something to consider as well.

A guinea pig is great pet for a classroom because it is relatively quiet, generally doesn't bite, and does not try to escape- as apposed to another small pet like a hamster or mouse. Not many people have allergies to guinea pigs. Hope this helps! Take care

It depends what ages he teaches. I would not recommed any small pet (hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, rabbit, rat, etc..) for kids under the age of 10.. and that is really streching it.. it wouldnt be so bad if it were your own kids.. but some kids can be just mean to animals.. especially when they are young. I don't know if it would be allowed, but, maltese and toy poodles are great for people with allergies. They are hypoallergenic and dont shed. Also, they are great with kids of all ages.

Gerbils. Hamster's sleep during the day, while gerbils are usually awake, and more fun for the children to watch.
Make sure to get 2, as they are very social.

I am a teacher also. Be sure your county/district doesn't have special rules. Our county does not allow warm blooded pets. A snake is always good, or turtle.

Caterpillars because you can watch them transform. But if you want a permanent pet I would have to say like a hamster.

Snakes, Lizards, maybe Spiders (my dad may not be a school teacher but he keeps a Black Widow Spider in his office just to observe it)
