First of all to answer this, I must refer to what I tell those who have felt despair and they then ask me "Why did this happen to me?". And that answer is "it simply happens because it can". Nothing ever happens that is not in the realm of possibilities. So "luck" really in a sense, is a poor way to describe life's events. All of life's decisions, personal actions and all of the universe's actions which of course includes everything we see or even do not see, has a cause and an effect. It is each individual who dares to label the result good or bad as well as the degree of its severity. So no one can ensure "good luck" as one might call it, but they can make the odds for more acceptable results slightly better by making well thought out and researched decisions. Yet the cause and effects are more times out of our control than not. But make no mistake, just as 2 + 2 = 4 is correct, the universe operates on very similar and finite formulas. Just extremely more complex. But as in that equation 2+2 = 4, it will equal 4 each and every time 2+2 is entered. Thus, every moment in history can be described is finite, making its own definite equation with its own personal and finite answer. And the creating of that history is what us humans refer to as daily life. It is simply human nature to describe those history events as good, or bad or possibly both.
So my explanation lies above about luck, but my advice for life is this. I think it is important to understand and repect that there is a universal formula in place. And even though the results we do see are very tiny as compared to the whole picture, we should learn from them. If one does acknowledge the possibilities that exists, then it will give a better chance for us to be more calculative and a less chance of being surprised. And we cannot be truly happy unless we can understand and accept that tomorrow is indeed a growth from today. .

Luck comes from the types of thoughts you think, and thetypes of beliefs you have. Examine your beliefs about luck and opportunities. Are they negative and pessimistic? Here is why you keep having bad luck.
The way to turn your luck around is simple. THINK MORE POSITIVE THOUGHTS. Every time you get a thought in your mind which says something like;
Poor me
Nothing ever works for me
I'm always unlucky
Something always goes wrong
(or words to that effect) change it straight away! Begin training your mind to think positively and optimistically. Then they events in your life will also change.
Also, see the successful outcome in your mind's eye. When you apply for something, when you go in for a draw, picture yourself succeeding in your mind first.
There is a saying which says that OPPORTUNITIES ARISE WHEN YOU OPEN UP YOUR THOUGHTS. You will be surprised what starts happening when you start thinking more positively.
I know, because I have had the experience many times over.
Another thing you could do is to say to yourself " this is just my luck, " every time something good or lucky happens to you (even if it's only with smaller things to start with). We often say this whenever something bad happens, but imagine what would begin to occur if you did it with positive events? You would be changing a belief without even really thinking about it.
Try it and see what happens.

Human beings are brilliant at spotting patterns. We're so keyed in to spotting patterns, we can see them where they don't exist. Canals on Mars, for instance, or a belief that we can win at roulette.
There's also a very human tendency to define probabilities in very, very simplistic terms: either something will happen, or it won't, and because we've couched it like that, it sounds like a 50/50 split. Even if we know it's NOT a 50/50 split, our subconscious isn't always all that rational...
So you've never won the jackpot on the lottery? But every time the jackpot's won, it's won by somebody else. It can either be won by you, or by someone else, and every time it's someone else, that feels like the laws of chance are being rewritten in favour of "someone else", whoever (s)he is.
Cast the dice and keep doing it. Eventually, they'll all come up sixes, but you can't ever say when it'll happen.
Improve your "luck" by doing things where the odds are more in your favour, or -- when the outcome's not as easy to determine as the fall of a handful of dice -- by doing things that improve your chances. If job applications fail, dress smarter, brush up on interview techniques, rewrite your CV... it's not about luck, because there's no such thing.
What we call luck starts to look a lot like probability theory, once you've scratched the surface.

There is a force at work that is directing this pattern: You. If the quality of the information you're submitting on applications is poor, if you're turning said applications in later rather than as soon as possible, if your appearance and demeanor are not appropriate when you submit applications, even something as small as poor penmanship on your applications: these are all factors that could weigh negatively against your application.
Change what you're doing. If you're applying for things that you aren't qualified for, then stop. The apples at the top of the tree will not stoop to be within your reach. Reach for those things that you can reasonably expect to attain. Apply for things as soon as you hear about them, rather than drag your feet. Specifically, if you're applying for a job, dress nicely, and present yourself in a professional manner, even if the only person you talk to is the receptionist who takes your form. Rehearse your behavior for this situation, and especially rehearse your interview skills. If you aren't prepared, nothing is more unpleasant than going to submit an application only to find the boss is free and wants to interview you right then. If your penmanship is poor, practice good penmanship before you fill out any truly important applications.

Maybe it's not a matter of "bad luck" but being on the wrong path. When you're on the right path and just where you're supposed to be, everything just seems to start falling into place. Even "bad" unfortunate events lead you to somewhere better which you realize was just a blessing in disguise all along. Maybe you just got off track and need to find your way back. I believe there's a blueprint you've already mapped out for your life before your even born, and even the bad stuff is in there to happen for a reason, or to lead you to somewhere else. It's either in your plan for all of this to be happening to lead you somewhere better, or you've just gotten a little off track. EVERYBODY does it from time to time, but I notice how things fall into place or coincidences happen when I'm on the right track, and when things go to **** when I'm a little off.

I believe that the reason many people always seem to have bad luck stems from their general outlook on life. Are they pessimistic in their outlook of life, ex. "I'll never win or I'll never get chosen", etc.Pessimism begets bad luck. On the other hand, a person who remains optimistic in all facets of their life, will soon see their luck changing for the better.

because afer one or two cases of bad luck you start o focus on it. specially when you are feeling down, that's when you're funlnurable and tend to look at things from the negative side. after one or more setbacks you just sort of stop noticing all the cases of good luck, no matter how small or big, and start noticing every bit of bad luck, no matter how big or small. it's not that you have so much more bad luck then on other days, you just notice it moer because you're focused on it!

When we say people _seem_ to be one thing, it usually implies that they're really something else. What looks like bad luck can turn out to be good luck if it steers you toward what you need most. Sometimes "unlucky" just means "discouraged." Don't waste your courage on other people's adventures. You'll be full of courage when you choose your own.

Since my birth my life has presented me with innumerable trials that seem to lead on forever with no end to them on my road. After experiencing them for years, I looked at the lives of those in the Bible...Jesus; Lot and the apostles, for example and remembered the verse that says, Many are the afflictions of the righteous. I attend no church, but I live a very spiritual life and my trials not only bring me closer to God, but enable me to have more compassion for those who are downtrodden and suffering than maybe I could if I had not been through the trials that I have.

No, no, no. It's not a question of bad luck. For a thing to occur, it must be under the right circumstances, i.e. right place, right time, right temperature, right pressure, etc. The technique is to just keep hammering so as to reach that sublime moment when opportunity meets the right conditions.
