People are far too lax about it. I don't know why people feel the need. I mean, I guess I understand once in a while under certain circumstances, but not all the time!

It's mainly a result of the family and the culture from which they came. I grew up in a small port town dominated by a large military base nearby. Both the shrimper folk and the military people tend to use a lot of profanity just as part of normal conversation. They see nothing unusual about their speech as these words have lost their power through excessive use. So, for most of my life, I have regularly laced profanity through much of my casual conversation.

It wasn't until I moved out West to an area where Mormon culture dominates that I became aware that this might be a problem. Mormons quite simply do not swear. They go out of their way to find more acceptable expressions, such as "Oh my heck!," and/or "Flip it!" When I first came here, I didn't believe it when people told me that the "folks in these parts" talked like that...but then I actually heard it myself. Even on the local news, the anchors will occasionally comment on a story with an "Oh my heck!" or something similar. Needless to say, the language of my culture got me a lot of dirty, if not openly mortified, looks. So, I have become sensitive to how I talk and try to save the really potent language for either when I can have a private conversation with my friends or for only those rare occasions of great physical pain in public.

because there are not better words to express ideas and opinions. Who was it that decided that these words were bad words anyway. I could say that pineapple is a bad word and then say it and people say I am cursing. There are far worse words hat are not considered cuss words but people get away with saying them all the time like rape, terrorists, cancer, ****, molestation, ect. There is not a word on the planet that has as many meanings and such a vast definition and context as the word fu*ck. It can be a noun, adjective, verb, pronoun, name, action, ect. It is a very valuable word and who and when did it become a bad word? I would rather people not say aids than Fu*ck.

Some scientists believe swear words are kept in a different part of our brains than other words, and these words are expressed reflexively when we're emotional. In tourette's syndrome, people swear uncontrollably because of damage to the part of the brain that controls inhibition; other people who suffer damage that prevents them from talking normally can still swear. Perhaps we evolved this way as an alternative to responding with violence when we are highly emotional.

Cursing is and will always be popular with teens, they do it because they feel it makes them seem older...and to show Independence...because most kids parents won't tolerate cursing. In adults, sometimes it is a way of compensating, people who have "little man" syndrome, people who are afraid and curse to seem more aggressive or more dangerous. Some people curse because of the business they are in, take construction workers for example. Hope this helps:)

They have no better way to express strong feelings. They lack better words or explanations of the things they want to say.

Because they don't mind sounding less intelligent I assume!
Besides, they don't really care what others think of them, so they make it obvious by cussing every other word.
Terrible, I think!

Peacel!

In college my English professor said people who use profane language frequently usually arent intelligent enough to know better adjectives for description. I tend to agree.

i think and believe that people are made up of everything they encounter, from birth to today.some people just do it without thinking about it because that's what they know.a lot of people do it in anger which seems to help get the point across-I'm mad don't mess with me now-some people are just raised differently and don't know that it is wrong,or just don't want to know it is wrong.
