In the house I am renting in one corner there seems to be small shell pasta growing from underneath. It has a rotten smell.

That is REALLY gross.
Sounds like a fungus of some sort...or maybe even a mushroom, if the floor under that corner is rotting
You need to get the landlord to address this situation.

Take pictures of it also pull the carpet back and take pictures of the floor. call the city building inspector out if your landlord wont address the issue.Houses have to be inspected before rented and things are sometimes over looked.That is mold and is very harmful to you. It can make you very sick. The floor may very well be rotting and you might not even be able to tell by looking at it. Don't ignore it!!!

Sounds like mold/mould or fungus. It can be very nasty and bad for your health. Contact the landlord. See these photos. When we were shopping for a house we went through one where the bathtub had leaked into the basement and there was growth similar to what you describe.

mold poison or something, I would call your carpet people, the apartment land lord, or a posion or mold speacialist
