A major astronomical even that hasn't happened in almost 26,000 years (the precession of the equinoxes) that will cause major geological events on this planet wiping out most of human civilization. The poles will shift from their current position to a location with one pole being somewhere along the tropic of cancer and the other along the tropic of capricorn. This event has been known about for thousands of years but only have we recently found out about it thanks to research of the Mayan calendars. Their calendar stops on that day. The Chinese calendar use to only go up to 2012 as well, for they knew it, too. However they have since extended it to hide that fact so as to not cause panic.

The significant date is actually December 21, 2012. So I supposed December 22 will be the first day of the aftermath of whatever happens on December 21. Of course, we don't really know what will happen on December 21, 2012, only that it is predicted to be of huge global significance. There is plenty of evidence to support the idea that the Earth's poles have suddenly shifted in the past. (Animal carcasses from all over the world have been found in a huge cave, as though they were all suddenly washed there by a huge wave or something. Mammoths have been found flash-frozen with warm-climate vegitation undigested in their stomachs.) Maybe the Earth is getting ready to do it again.

The planet Nibaru (which the ancient Sumerians said was on a huge eliptical orbit around our sun) was discovered by NASA last year, and is not due back in our neighborhood for over 1000 years, so that's ruled out. It won't be crashing through the solar system in 2012..

Remote viewers all over the world are predicting a gigantic solar flare that will pretty much make Hell on Earth in the near future. While that's a very scary prospect, I do think that whatever happens to the Earth will be a symptom of a greater problem. Several of the planets in our solar system seem to be warming up right now, just as Earth is. For example, Mar's temperature is up. So something big is happening.

The HAARP project, run by the US government, has been firing a lot of power into the radiation belt between the Earth and the Moon (the equivilant of 70,000 radio stations worth of power). This is disrupting the radiation, sending it falling to Earth. This practice can't be wise.

Many people, including several Tibetian monks, believe that benevolent extraterrestrials will be making themselves known to us in the very near future. I thought this was pretty strange, coming from monks, until I read a book published back in the 50s, called "The Third Eye." It was the supposedly factual autobiography of a Tibetian monk, and it was FULL of paranormal things -- psychic abilities, yetis, and a belief that their "gods" were giants who used to literally live on Earth before a gigantic meteor changed the geography of the planet. So, by comparison, these monks don't seem so "out there" now.

Whatever happens on December 21, 2012, I think that what will happen on December 22, 2012 will be what happens after every major event in our world. The poor and the weak will suffer from it, as the rich and the powerful attempt to somehow turn it to their own advantage.

No one knows. This date is infamous because the Myan calander doesnt go beyond this date. Many people speculate about the meaning of this but chances are nothing will happen. We can accurately predict where the planets will be at that time there is no evidence that suggests a strange alignment of the planets. Although an intresting theory is that there is a gigantic planet with a enormous orbit of somthing like 20,000 years and supposedly in 2012 it will once again come to within a very close distance to earth. This giant planet is from where we earthlings originated so they say There are many intresting theories about this.

Since this is in the astronomy section, presumably you're talking about the meteor that's going to hit.
