for a first time pet owner you should get a guini pig they are cute and loving and are great pets. The main thing you need to do is clean them out. ps their little squeaks are so cute you will just want to pick them up and give them a hug.Best wishes in getting the pet you want.

PLEASE, do not pick a pet based on what a group of people have told you on the Internet. What's right for them may be oh so wrong for you.
What kind of pet you get depends on so many things:
Your personality, your age, your ability to care for pets based on space/housing, time(are you very busy?) and income, aso.
Also, if you are a minor and are living with parent/s and/ or siblings you may want to take into account that the animal will have to live in the same household with them as well and things are much easier on everyone if they all like each other.
There are lots of pets out there to be adopted, you may want to check that out. Try www.petfinder.com. Lots of animals looking for forever homes there. I found my two ferret boys through it.
What ever you do, think it through thoroughly. Take all the things into account that I've mentioned and then choose.
Good luck with that. Hope you find a great pet.

try a husband/boyfriend first or maybe a child. This will let you know what looking after a pet entails.
On a more serious note I have a dog and 4 cats. If you want unconditional love and some hard work a dog, if you want some love when they want something, cats are very loving on their terms but also more independant. If you can't be bothered try a sea monkey or stick insect

The best is one you rescue from an animal shelter, I have a pedigree golden retriever and a Lhasa mix I saved from being put to sleep, their both well behaved and already house broken with such great love for us and visa versa, just go to one and save one, when you walk through and see what a variety there is just remember if no one cares they will all be put to sleep and you will know when you look into their eyes which one you need as much as they need you! They are someone else's pet that they may have paid hundreds of dollars for but could keep them for one reason or another and yes they have pedigrees of all kinds and they fix them so you won't have any surprises and if it doesn't work out you can always return then for a fee usually $20.00 and they will put them up for adoption and if you don't see one you like visit them the next week, they usually have new one's every day, remember they need care and medicine just like a child so think before you get one because I would hate for you to see a picture of the hundreds to thousands of piles of ones they have to put to sleep every single day! Good luck and may God Bless and keep you because I believe pets are our guardian Angels!

Depends on your lifestyle. If you are a quiet at home type, a small dog or cat is perfect....If you're gone frequently, I'd suggest a goldfish! But I highly suggest that you adopt, rather than pay for an expensive, trendy pet. I tried that.....I ended up with an obnoxious dog that pee'd everywhere. My stray mutt has turned out to be the most loyal, loving and obedient dog.

I think guinea pigs are the best- seriously! The all have their own little personalities nd are so much fun. If they get to know you they come when called and follow you around if you set them on the floor... they aren't really dirty or smelly either and relatively easy to house and feed.... they are very gentle and affectionate pets too, totally unlike hamsters or rabbits, and they don't live as long as a cat or dog, typically 6 years or so.

well o think that you should pick a animal that you would most enjoy. If you like to walk, run, go to the park etc, then i would get a dog. If you live in a apartment then i would get a small dog. if you live in a hose with a yard then i would get a dog. If you dont have much time or you dont like to get out, then i would get a cat, or a fish tank. i dont like fish for a real pet though because they arnt much fun. lol. well there is many other animals like reptiles and snakes, and hamsters, gerbils, and stuff like that. well i hope i helped. :) , dani

It really depends on what your conditions are. If you have a horse and around $1000 a horse or cow would be a good idea. If you live in a small apartment in a big city, a Yorkie is a possibility. If you have a house in town, you could have a number of animals.
