Their were a couple who thought the World Cup was their own personal stage. Unfortunately that happens in all sports. However for the most part the officiating was pretty good. Remember, that's a difficult job. The entire world is watching and everyone is speaking different languages.

I think the refereeing in the World Cup is absolutely deplorable! FIFA should be ashamed of itself. They'll have to apologize to a lot of countries once the Cup is finished. The refs should let the players play and the end result should be based on the players on not the refs. When the refs become the story of the game, then they are not doing their job.

Inconsistent! There's been some shocking decisions (Graham Poll - 3 yellow cards??), but there's been some well refereed matches too.
I think many of the problems stem from the many directives referees are given by Fifa. For instance, they were told to really crack down on fouling, but this has led to increased diving because players know they'll get the opposition booked!
I think diving and things of that ilk should be clamped down on more than fouling.

Too many little rules to control now. makes it very hard for them. Best Ref was between Italy and Germany in the semis and the game flourished from him letting it flow.
worst ref was Portugal V Holland. What was that all about?
Need to start throwing the cards about for divers and letting the refs have a bit more of control than giving them a 2000 page rule book and telling them to follow it to the letter.

Yep but i also think that FIFA are to blame too...for instance the game Holland v Portugal was terrible, both team's were out to win the game by being dirty and diving all over the place...the ref had no choice but to produce the red card and yet FIFA said he had gone too far. It was both team's that did that, they made the World Cup look like a big joke...which i guess it was really

The referee's are not to blame. It is FIFA, and especially Sepp Blatter who is to blame.
The ref's are so scrutinised, and with the FIFA guidelines changing ALL the time, they are caught between a rock and a hard place.
The games are not able to flow easily, and even the slightest transgression has to be punished.
The severity of what constitutes a "foul" is wildly different from country to country.
PLAY-ACTING is the worst enemy, and this should be severely punished

No better or worse than we see week in week out in the game at home. Always will be wrong decisions and nothing that can be done to change that without spoiling the flow of the game.
