I'm pregnant and I can tell you that I have never eaten coal or even thought about eating coal, but I am sure that there is someone out there who has.

Some pregnant women have been known to eat charcoal and other strange things. It means they are lacking a certain nutrient or vitamin. Not all pregnant women do this though. I have 2 children and never ate any non food items.

I can honestly say that I have never met a pregnant woman that eats coal. But when you attend your first prenatal appointment, they ask you if you have any cravings for dirt, or clay. The reason they ask this is because when you crave stuff like that, it means your body needs certain vitamins or minerals. When thats the case, they prescribe added vitamins, along with their prenatal vitamins.

Wow. That is really crazy but nice to know there are other women out there with stupid cravings also. I have that problem with eating non food items but never coal thank God. Laundry starch. OMG, and it taste sooooo good. I feel like im going insane if i dont get it, like seriously. This also causes me to hate doing laundry or even being aroung it for that matter. I started to each corn starch not knowing if it would harm my baby. Not as good but satisfying. Missing the soapy taste.
p.s. I really do feel for those of us who crave for non food items.

I never ate coal when I was pregnant. I want sushi and slushies. When a prego womyn craves something it is because she is missing something in her diet. to her it probably tastes like the best thing in the world.

They don't usually. Unless they have terrible iron and other mineral deficiencies. They've also been known to eat red clay, but a decent diet should prevent both in first world countries.

This is a condition called PICA. It is when the body is sorely lacking in certain chemicals or nutrients and they crave non-food items, like soap, dirt, etc. This is a serious condition and needs to be reported to their doctor so they can run blood tests and get them on vitamins to help with the deficiancy.
