the total sum of U.S politics is indefinable with a single word, the U.S contains a diversity of opinion from communist parties to fascist parties. However if you want to generalize; well just look at the government they elected, neo-realist / neo-conservative politicians, the same creed that have always maintained a vice like grip on the central executive. You also have to look at the party system, there is only one party in America, the corporate nexus party, the republicans and democrats just have different business interests. There is also the factor of religion, we are talking about a nation of self hating puritans - extremely conservative, racist, armed to the teeth and afraid of anything new or different. I suppose if you were to compare America with other liberal democracies in Europe, it;s clearly the most conservative. I am personally disgusted by the patriotic sensationalism bound to American culture, it's not their fault but it's still pretty repugnant, Americans are generally raised as flag waving, god fearing, isolated, and extremely ignorant young people, and this simply has to change if the world is to stand a chance, it's the most important country in world politics - they need to start getting things right.

Hum excellent question.

I could go spend a few hours finding you stats on the amount of democrats versus republicans but that would not answer the question.

I honestly don't think anyone can answer that question because a lot of ppl are absolutely confused right now. Just tonight I met a guy who seemed like a redneck from hell but as we talked he said, "I'm a democrat because I'm a union man." As he went on to talk he was really a real redneck BUT he also believed in minding his own business. I was actually downright impressed. He was like one of those men's men.. real tough guy but totally liberal minded.

So, I just don't know if we can base this on what we think liberal, conservative, moderate is anymore. What I am saying is: the definitions are so out of whack that I think a lot of us are confused.

Hell, just a few years ago 'conservative' was the FAR RIGHT. Now conservative is the republican 'norm'.

Sorry not a real answer. Just what I think.

I believe most Americans are more Moderate and Conservative than Liberals. I say this because even Clinton had to go to the middle to get elected and you can see ole Hillary following in his foot steps. Even though it is widely known how liberal she really is.

The country is just way _too_ conservative because of the religious Right led by televangelist Pat Robertson and others. They said this country was heading into a "moral decay" due to the fact of homosexuality, abortion, and other causes. Let me tell you like this:
1) abortion is a right for a woman to terminate her pregnancy, something that the government should stay out of and tend to the business at hand; and
2) homosexuality is a relationship of two consenting adults of the same sex, and I find nothing wrong with it. Gay marriages should be legal in the U.S., such as the case in Canada and in most of Europe. Yet, these Christian alarmists want to stop it in this country with this silly law that defines "marriage of one man and one woman." And as a hard-core liberal, there's no chance in hell that the Christian Right should tell me what is morally acceptable. They need to keep their mouth shut and leave us alone about it!

The masses have been conned in to thinking they are conservative by the ruling wealthy privileged elite so that they can continue ripping off people and poisoning the environment. Churches and the Republican owned media like NBC, Fox, the Washington Times, MSNBC, and Clear Channel Radio have done this. People actually like liberal concepts like social security, peace, prosperity, keeping jobs in the USA, national health care, public beaches, roads, and national parks, but its all going away because the masses vote Republican. Too bad.
