I certainly hope that Portugal wins. Thus far of the 8 teams that are left in the draw England is playing absolutely horrible football. They needed an own goal against Paraguay, a bit of luck against the Soca Warriors. Could not get past Sweden just like the past 50 years. A miracle free kick against Ecuador. Most importantly, they have no flare, no excitement. I love FA Premier League, but the football that the national team plays is so far from it. They are slow, boring, and certainly not offense oriented. They spend more time giving back passes in the midfield, then anything else.

England should win. They have the better players and although they lost Owen, Portugal isn't playing Deco or Costinha, Figo is under the threat of a yellow card so he won't have the courage to dive so much, and c ronaldo even if he is an amazing player, his little-girl-crying-for-his-mommy attitude won't really help him.
On the other hand, Beckham, despite his fame and everything else, is an amazing player. and by that i mean he is good at what he does. his free kicks corners and deep passes always find someone ready to take them. he also needs to score one more goal from a free kick and he will beat Pele's record of 2. Rooney is a good player, but i believe that its more the moral that he brings to the team that really helps england. everyone's confidence is boosted once Rooney is on the field. Crouch might not be the brightest star on the team, but his height is key for the team. he gets free and scores like crazy. Gerrard and Lampard are also very good. and although i don't particularly like the goalie Robinson, their defensive is still very competent.
Overall, i think England deserves to win. and i hope they play a good game, with no faulty refereeing like in the previous matches. no one likes to see the 'beautiful game' turned into a battlefield like in Portugal- Holland.

Well we (England) haven't played all that well in this World Cup, and we have a poor record against Portugal over recent times. However, Portugal will miss not having Deco on the pitch as he is suspended from the match and this gives in my opinion a great chance for Engalnd to reach the semi-finals.

Portugal - however, Ronaldo could well be distracted by his idiotic transfer talk, Deco and Costinha will be sadly missied.
BUT as it's Figo's last world cup he's likely to do a Zidane and score.
Hope it's Portugal cause otherwise the English press will go over the top as usual and it'll be unbearable.

ok, psychic Mike the following ..... England 2 Portugal a million besides the undeniable fact that the game will be messy ... assorted venom from Portugal and distinct yellow playing cards ...oh, a minimum of one purple card to boot. MY view is that if Portugal sense the rigidity, they are going to attempt to disable England finally in an attempt to bypass ahead. Rooney, save a watch on your ankles mate! shall we save heart!
