Put him on his back. There's nothing wrong with him, he just doesn't like staying that way. I was the other way, I was tummy down all the time (still sleep that way)

Well, if he is not sleeping on his stomach that is good, babies under 1 yrs old should always sleep on their backs or side. If you just want him to lay on his stomach to play and for developmental reasons like learning to lift his head up and eventually onto his arms and into crawling position u need to get him some toys that he can lay on and look at and also maybe get down there with him and talk to him...my son didn't like it at first either but once I showed him it was fun he learned real quick

I just read the other day that laying infants on their belly gives them exercise. My 5 month old likes to lay both ways. There was a study saying kids that don't like to lay on there stomache is a sign of obesity or a sign of laziness. If I were you i would keep trying everyday until he gets use to it.

Have you just tried letting him lay until he cries, then move him.

My son was the same why. Gradually, with muich determination, I have managed to have him lay on his back for 5 mintue periods. You have to increase every day and be very consistant.

It's important for them to lay on their bellies - it's how they build muscles on their arms and chest. It prepares the muscles or crawling.

Has your baby rolled over? Has baby began the beginning stages of crawling?

If developing normally it may not be necessary.

A sign of obesity and laziness is just pure crap. Some babies have gas or upset tummies that it part of the reason. And, it is exercise...it is physically tiring to their little bodies. I can see how NOT making them exercise would lead to obesity and laziness...

Besides, how many peoples parents were told to lay their babies on their bellies so they wouldn't choke on their own spit. Now, look and see the obese population of those people.

Actually it is safer for them NOT to lay on their stomachs when sleeping, so they don't smother themselves. Little babies haven't yet developed the reflex that makes us move when we aren't getting enough air. Lying on their back or side is the best. He might have a sensitive stomach and feel sick on his tummy, especially if he is full. Or maybe, he just doesn't like it!
If you mean when playing, then don't worry, he'll grow out of it. He'll learn to roll and stuff.

During awake hours tummy time at 6 months is ok, make sure you lay on your tummy too and play, this helps in developing neck muscles and crawling, and by the way it's 2006- it is BACK TO SLEEP, not tummy sleep, research has decided backsleeping cuts the risk of SIDS down. I personally used the "cheese-wedge"so my munckin could sleep more on her side than her back and ceratinly NOT her tummy!

I have a 7 month old. At first she would cry if she was on her stomach too long, anything more than 30 seconds was too long. So I would roll her over onto her back. A few minutes later she would be whining again from rolling onto her tummy. So I would roll her over again onto her back. We did this for a while until she got used to being on her tummy. She doesn't cry anymore, or at least not for that reason!

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am a emergency medical technician with 4 children of my own, one being 2 years old. The others are grown. Your baby at that young age should always lay on his back to prevent SIDS. He will turn and get his spot later. Right now, he belongs on his back for extra help with his breathing. Get him a little pillow so he will be more comfortable. He knows at that age what he needs. LOL

just put him on his tummy for small periods of time and make those times really fun for him!

lay out a blanket, put him down on it and lay in front of him and play with little toys and make funny faces at him...ya know baby stuff:)

do this for about 10 minutes a day, maybe some in the morning and evening.
this will get him used to his tummy and also won't stress out his neck (are you sure his neck is strong enough for tummy time already??)

once he gets used to it you can buy toys that are geared for tummy time.
fisher price makes a great floor gym that has 3 steps.
1-when baby is on back
2-tummy time
3-it forms an aquatic tunnel when baby starts crawling.

take care!

If he doesn't like laying on his stomach then let him lay on his back as long as he is confortable. In less when he is laying on his stomach it hurts or he feels pain don't worry.

Just let him lay however he wants. He's at the age where he can roll (at least my son could at that age) so he will roll to whatever position is best for him, not where you want him to be. Put him in his crib in his pjs at night and let him get comfy. Don't try to force him to sleep a certain way because its not going to work and will just cause him to not want to sleep at all
