right, look - no job is really that difficult that they have to look far and wide to find someone to fit the bill. What people are looking for is someone who can fit in/ add to the team. Don't be a stiff, be friendly and fun. Shy doesn't work. Nobody is going to want to hire a moody jerk who just gets his work done over in the corner.
Oh, an no matter how cliche it may sound - they will ask "what your weaknesses are". They can't help themselves, so be prepared. Just say that you "lack practical experience," that'll do the trick.
Now go get'em tiger!

I agree that you want to keep your resume down to one page- managers don't have time to read 3 pages describing every detail of your work history, much less your favourite after school activities.

If possible, give your resume directly to the person in charge. This way you'll make an impression on whomever's hiring. After about a week, make a follow-up call.

If you don't have a specific job in mind, the best thing you can do is hand out as many resumes as possible to increase your odds of finding a job. Often, job searches are about perseverance.

Lastly, remember that every step of this process is part of the interview. Every time you make contact with someone they will be judging you. Dress your best and be polite to everyone you meet, especially secretaries!

Do you homework. First on yourself (likes, dislikes, limits, etc.). Then on the type of company you'd like to work for. Get help putting together an effective resume, then hit some of the major websites.

If you're just starting out in the work world, then just hit the bricks and apply to as many as you can. Be sure you are ready with answers to the usual questions (check out some books on this). You want to present a sharp image to them.

Good luck!!

Apply in person.

Dress like you want the job. Dressy, conventional business wear. Nothing in the way of fad clothes. Slacks and shirts that really fit properly.

Clean cut, well groomed hair.

Do not chew gum. Make eye contact. Be sincere and be honest.

Good Luck.

it depends on what job....
you don't need a resume to start working at taco bell....
you only need a resume for a professional level job.
for everything else just fill out the application.

what you need to know is the reason people hire you is to do a job so they can earn income. they are willing to pay you in return for you doing what they want. you have to go to work on time and whenever it is scheduled.

Include a resume (one page) and references, personal and professional (one page.)

During the interview, never say anything negative about your previous company.

Good luck.
