The Battery has never held a charge for longer than 15 mintues and I actually had to remove the batter for the computer to even run last week. Now the computer shuts off in the middle of anything you do. Sometimes it will start back up and other times it wont for a couple hours or sometimes days. Any ideas or suggestions as to what the heck is going on here with it?

Let me clarify a bit. I took the battery out. It worked fine for a couple of days with just the power cord plugged in. But that soon came to a halt. Now with the battery out, and the power cord plugged in it cuts off for no reason, and if it is in the mood will restart, but most times it wont even power up. It acts like there is no power coming into it. Any more suggestions?

It may be a heat problem. Most laptops are used while on someone's lap and the cooling vent gets blocked. Lint and animal hair also get into the vent and clog it. Clean out all the lint and whatever else is in there and start running the laptop on a smooth/hard surface. Replace the battery to keep the time and date constant when the computer is unplugged.

3 sources of this problem ......

Motherboard power circuit
Proc
Blocked vents

If cleaning up the vents doesnt solve the problem, then its definitely the mobo or the Proc. Call Dell and fix up a service for a chekc up on the system. Its a Dell 1000, so you will need to either send it to the depot, or if you have an @home service, then the technician will come and replace them for you.

I agree with the heating issue answer, it sounds like it is the cause of this. If you are handy, you need to dismantle this laptop and clean it up and reassemble it. There are also programs that will monitor your systems's heat and fan speed to tell you if something is wrong there. Another good, maybe the best alternative, is to get a "cradle" for it which has additional fans which will really keep things cool for you.

delete some archives/videos you do not favor? also, your "cleansing out the registry" would have damaged something. what software did u use? registry cleansing courses are risky employer. they'd help, yet they'd heavily damage something, the registry is amazingly fragile. duct-tape restoration: decrease back up your major archives and reinstall abode windows. (use the classes that got here at the same time with your laptop to person-friendly techniques to go back your laptop to production unit condition)
