Well first and foremost coming from an American, although there are two official languages in Hong Kong and english being one of them, Cantonese is the most popular dialect spoken in Hong Kong. Second, grant it some Americans tend to be borish and outspoken, but as a society it appears that your opinions have been based on the exposure to a very limited amount of both controlled media and/or bad experiences with a select group of Americans. I am sorry the the rest of the World may view us as bullies among other things, but America is in a lose/lose situation. As a country if we sit back and do nothing we are to blame, and if we step in and support any country we are seen as imperialistic. Anyway just thought I'd provide an American point of view. You honestly did not think no American would not respond did you?

I think it would be very heavy-handed to give views on "all americans", as there are millions of them.
However, there is a cultural tendency toward ignorance in certain cases. They also tend to appear to be very loud and brash when visiting other countries.
Their politics have let them down in the eyes of the rest of the world, which leaves them open to criticism: "how can they vote for Bush, etc....." I am sure everyone is tired of such debate. Their isolationist and ultra-capitalistic system in place does not tend to win them friends abroad.

Hi,
Nice question!
I met a lot of Americans. Actually i lived for 7 years in New York :(
Sadly i hate them. Too proud of themselves, dishonest, stupid, not educated (and if they are they know a lot about a very tiny part)=not a solid culture... Besides the fact that they are the very ugly, fat and smelliest(due to the fat).
Don't get me wrong. They have good point also.... great humor, respect for free speech and they respect the hierarchy (they do not ask too many questions... i wonder y?) and hard workers and stubborn in a good way.

Too arrogant. Talk alot and think they know alot too. Actually, they don't know much. They win in arguements with their aggressive talking and not by knowledge nor substance. Know little of the outside world. Most of the folks have domestic knowledge. Not well exposed enough, especially to cultures from other parts of the world, eg asian culture.
Honestly, how many Americans know what is the common dialect spoken by Hong Konger? I guess only 1 will know and he will reply.
George Bush is well known in Asia. But I guess not many Americans would know who Thaksin, Li Ka Shin, Chen Shui Bian, Koizumi, Yudhoyono, Lee Hsein Loong are. They don't know much about the outside world.
The plus point about them is their creative thinking skill. That's why they are the leader in innovation.

Gee, I , as an American , am sad and offended that everyone has grouped us into one category. It sounds to me like the people that answered this question are no better than the ones they are judging. And besides, what kind of a question is that, you would think we have moved farther along than such high schoolish things, not as Americans but as a human race.
