I did see this, and it's definitely questionable. I used to referee soccer and the ball does not have to be directly kicked towards an offensive player to be considered offsides. Once past the final defender, any ball put in play in that direction will render the player offsides. This play seemed to be a huge error in officiating at the World Cup.

OK let me clearly state that FIFA rules changed this year....even if a player is in offside position, the linesman has to see whether he is involved in the move or not, if he is not involved in the move, then it is not an offside EVEN though that player is offside. Thus Henry was offside but he was not involved in the move so the goal was onside. Another example is Nistelrooy's goal vs Ivory Coast.

yeah the player has to be involved in the play so if he doesn't touch the ball or make a decoy run then it is not considered offside. you're right but, and i think he was in an offside position every time the ball came forward the goose.

I dont think that Ribery was in an offside position. Henry was but he had no direct affect on the play. Tough luck but it wasnt.

Offside, no ask your self, became the Spanish objective hostile to Netherlands because the very prompt pass earlier takes position to be thrown over to a Spanish participant in an offside position. I watched and paused video, and positioned out what?
