Yeah, you heard me...even if they only serve ONE TERM, they continue to receive full pay, insurance, etc. until they die.

Adding to that tidy sum... when they leave their jobs on the Hill, they typically take six figure jobs in the private sector, join the professional lecture circuit and sit on boards of corporations
-for A LOT more money.
ANd we're not just t
Even at $162,000 per year (their average salary) - a senator in their 50's living 30 more years will rake in more than $4,860,000- and that's just salary-no the cost to us for their benefits.

These people have won the fricking LOTTERY.

When OUR jobs are not secure in America and when our economy is in the toilet- do you think WE THE PEOPLE should cancel the "free ride for life" for our elected officials and put those MULTI MILLIONS of dollars back into programs we need for our children, our elderly and our own health care?

In my humble opinion-two years of severance is ENOU

I hate to add the fact that they get automatic annual raises and, when retired, also get automatic cost of living raises.

The American voters have just accepted this. Its past time to vote them all out!

You are correct. They have a very nice retirement package and keep that great health care also. But they do not have full salary. I cannot give you a link, but I remember reading about this in Texas Monthly a couple of years back when local elections were going on. They were making comparisons to Capitol Hill. If yoyu think things are wacko in Washington, you should see the Texas legislature in action.

Suprise! Been that way a Looooooong time. Want it to stop??? Good luck. YOU don't have a Lobbyist to support your cause. And NO politician of EITHER party will be interested in having their cushy bennies taken away. Career politicians are CORRUPT. BOTH parties. Now, what are you all going to DO about it??? And by the way, it is SO true. This is in fact OLD news.

Of course they do! Why do you think they don't care about how high taxes get, about Social Security, about Health Care... I could go on and on!

Plus -- none of that will ever change, because it's a law! And what politician in their right mind would vote to change a law that keeps them financially secure for life?

they receive government benefits for life but after service in office, 99% of them will make a whole lot more money in the private sector.

Your elected 'public servants' have been ripping you off for decades! All because they've managed to distract so that we don't even pay any attention to what they do behind our backs.

The sitting U.S. Congress is by far the most corrupt, evil, incompetent body ever to occupy the Capitol Building. They're beholden to the George Bush administration, which happens to the the most corrupt, evil, incompetent ever to occupy the White House. Consider what Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld have done since 2000, with the help of a cowardly Congress:

1. Illegally and unconstitutionally invaded another sovereign nation who in now ay threatend, provoked, or attacke the U.S.; 2. Massacred tens of thousands of Iraqi women, children, and the elderly for no justifiable reason;
3. Condoned the physical, verbal, emotional and sexual abuse, torture and even murder of irresponsibly-incarcerated prisoners in direct violation of the rules of the Geneva Convention;
4. Terrified small nations into building their own nuclear weapons to defend themselves against the new "evil empire" - the United States of America;
5. Dismantled environmental laws designed to protect our fragile eco-system for future generations;
6. Neglected the needs of America's poor, disadvantaged, sick, aged, underprivileged, homeless, and hungry while playing "Robin Hood in Reverse", stealing from the poor to give to the rich so they may - in turn - make generous (if not illegal) campaign contributions to keep the GOP in power;
7. Lied to the American people and leaked information to the press when it was convenient to their agenda;
8. Killed over 2,500 U.S. soldiers;
9. Turned our country into a police state wherein citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent;
10. Damaged our reputation as a global leader and world peacekeeper.

Meanwhile, while Bush and Congress do all that, they give themselves pay raises, refuse to raise the minimum wage, destroy the American economic base, create joblessness, provide themselves with lavish perks and retirement benefits, and live in the lap of luxury while 'common' citizens try to make ends meet.

What can we do? Well, as long as our politicians can keep us distracted, they'll continue to suck off the taxpayers' teats.

We're preoccupied with maxxed-out credit cards; $3.00-per-gallon fuel for our gas-suzzling SUVs; Britney Spears' new baby; "low prices - everyday" on WalMart junk we don't even need; taxes on taxes; job layoffs and downsizings; and the rankings of our favorite baseball team.

As long as politicians can keep us from looking into their corruption, they'll just keep on being corrupt. They dont want us to vote because that minimizes their chances of being re-elected.

Thomas Jefferson once said: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is way past due. It's time for Americans to get off the couch, put down the remote, and take up arms against the stranglehold Republicrats have on our democratic political system. Let's face it: even voting won't help. If we throw out crooked Republicans, we only replace them with crooked Democrats. America needs a second Revolution so that we can effectively demolish both current political parties and set up a new governmetn "of the people, for the people, and by the people..." Until that happens, we'll continue to be slaves to our own apathy.

So, your "public servants" have taken over our mansions, drive our fancy limousines, get our lush retirement pensions, and suck up all the wealth in this country just because we're more concerned with a six-dollar Starbucks than we are with preserving our Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. -RKO-
