There have been babies that were born at 24 or 25 weeks at only about 1 pound. Although many don't make it, many do survive.
I know this from personal experience with my wife having a preemie. Although ours was born at 31 weeks, we saw other babies that were like the one mentioned above. There were pictures on the wall of those babies who made it and some who didn't. One of the pictures showed a set of twins. One of the twins had a picture when he was in the incubator, and then a cute recent studio picture of him. There was a picture of his brother in the incubator, but it said that his brother didn't make it. That was very sad, and to this day it still brings a tear to my eyes to think about it.
Our baby girl had to have emergency surgery because her intestines started dying. It was a 3 hour surgery, and the surgeon couldn't tell us what her chances would be of making it until after he could open her up to see how extensive the damage was. Even after that, there was no guarantee that it would not relapse and take a turn for the worse. My daughter had to be on a feeding tube and was in the neonatal intensive care unit for 41 days.
My wife prayed day and night, and thank God that our baby survived it and is now almost 21 months old and doing fine. Another baby girl who had the same problem didn't do as well, and she was still in the intensive care and having complications when we left with our baby.
If you are ever in that kind of situation, all you can do is pray. We had the best doctors in the world but it was all up to God.

A fetus is viable at 27 weeks but it is very dangerous to give birth before at least 35 weeks.I had a friend who's baby was born at 30 weeks and she was in the hospital for a long time, now she is a very happy, vibrant, healthy 11 year old.It just depends on how strong the baby is.

the baby would definatly be premature, and if I recall my Child develpment class correctly, there is a good chance he/she could make it. The baby might have to stay in the hospital for a few weeks and be closely observed, but those are at best circumstances. It also depends on how well your pregnancy has gone, how much stress your under, infact I suggest you ask your doctor.

Yes - I gave birth at 27 weeks and my son survived. Doesn't sound like you are worried about being in labour but IF you think that you are in labour - get seen by Dr or hospital right away. How soon you seek help has a lot to do with the outcome.

if you did go into labor, but the baby was ok...they would give you a shot to stop labor....i just had it on sunday i am 34 weeks pregnant and i had contractions and they gave me a shot and they contractions stopped right away....if your earlier than 37 weeks and you think your going into labor ethier call your doctor right away or go right to the hospital, the earlier you get there the earlier they can give you the medicine to make your labor stop (with most women the shot works) good luck!

My son was born at 29 weeks, and although he had to be in the hospital until a week before his due date, he is almost 2 now and no developmental delays what-so-ever. The best thing to do for a preemie is offer a lot of stimulation and work with them on their motor skills. I took my son to Occupational Therapy and they showed me different exercises to do with him.

more than likely it would live, they would give you steroid injections which will help to mature the lungs of the baby, the baby would more than likely be on a venterlator in nic for a few weeks until it has not only put on a healthy weight gain but also is breathing by its self.
