You need to generate a source of renewable income. There is no easy way to do this of course, as anything that generates income on its own requires a lot of work to get started. You can play the stock market, of course. Another option would be to get involved in real estate. Invest in some properties to make them desirable, then rent them out.

Ultimately "financial freedom" is different for everyone. Some will feel free when they're out of debt--others won't feel free until they're millionaires many times over. If you don't know when enough is enough, you'll never gain the freedom you seek.

Follow Dave Ramsey's plan. It might be hard at first, but in the long run you will be financially free. The 7 basic steps are:

1. $1,000 to start an Emergency Fund
2. Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball
3.Three to six months of expenses in savings
4. Invest 15 percent of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement
5. College funding for children
6. Pay off home early
7. Build wealth and give! Invest in mutual funds and real estate
