You 're visiting at a good time. It shouldn't be as hot as July or early August, but expect it to be warm most likely as Chicago really doesn't start to cool off until September. As far as rain goes, the end of August is not the wettest time of the year; however, Chicago is famous for changeable weather. By the way, Lake Michigan is really beautiful in the summer: you may want to jog or walk along side it.
As far as food goes, you can find about anything you want to eat, from good ethnic cuisine to excellent, but expensive, steaks, to hamburgers and hot dogs. You may want to have a Chicago style hot dog at Wrigleyville Dogs, and you may enjoy visiting The Billy Goat Tavern for a cheeseburger. If you like deep dish pizza, by all means stop by Gino's East.
There are all kinds of things to do in Chicago. You can go to Millenium Park and see the "Bean," and you can visit Navy Pier, to name just a couple. If you want, you can go for a boat ride, or you can travel to the top of the Sears tower. Chicago has an aquarium, a planetarium, a Chinatown (not as big as in NYC or San Francisco, but still nice), and two major league baseball teams--Go Sox! If you like museums, The Field Museum is a great place to learn about natural history-- the world's largest T. Rex skeleton ever discovered is there, and the Museum of Science and Industry is definitely worth a visit-- they even have a captured German U-Boat from WWII that you can walk through, provided it has been re-opened.
In short, unless you're broke, you can have a great time in Chicago: even if you're broke, you can still have a pretty good time. If you still need more ideas, you might want to ask some local folks for advice when you get in the area. Have a great trip!

Well if past records are any indication, bring an umbrella. The last few years we've been hit with lots of rain during August. But it'll proably be hot as well, so don't bring the heavy raincoat.
But then again, last year was one of the driest on record
(http://wgntv.trb.com/news/weather/weblog/wgnweather/archives/2005_08.html)
so the bottom line is be prepared for rain, but don't be surprised if it's hot. As they say in Chicago, if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes...
As far as where to hang out, try Wicker Park, Lakeview and the area around Wrigley Field, Roscoe Village. When you get here, ask someone how to get to these places. not hard to find.

In august its usually very hot.
So pack some shorts and some thongs since you appear to be a hot lady. but if you're the guy in your picture, then tell your girl to pack some thongs then, cuz she's hot
also, its Chicago so the weather is always bound to change in drastic fashion, I would recommend packing umbrellas for the rains. It usually rains in little spurts. besides raining, it should be pretty hot all through august even till the end.

You are so lucky! Chicago is the greatest city in the US...I lived there for three years. It will be hot and humid most likely....but the weather changes so quickly in Chicago, so definitely be prepared for rain!
My favorite restaurant is Reza's. They have two locations. One on Rush and one in Andersonville on Clark. Reza's is a great Middle Eastern Restaurant....visit the one on Clark and check out Andersonville...it's a great smaller neighborhood with a great new tapas bar also. Also check out the water tower downtown and go up to the 95th floor for a drink . Definitely go to the lake....the water is the warmest in August.

Warm. I like going to the top of sears tower or john hancock building. i like the art museum and shedd aquarium. i like a cruise on lake michigan (from navy pier or on the canal). I like the picasso statue. i like riding the "el" elevated train. Pack comfortable shoes because you walk a lot in the city. They have water taxis which i think are cool. Lakefront park is great.
