I thought Narnia was Ok, for some reason it was hard for me to keep interested in them.
A Series of Unfortunate events is good, they keep you interested and they're full of mystery.
Eragon and Eldest were Ok, a little slow moving with some unnecessary details, but good in the end.
I would recommend a couple more, the Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke is full of adventure and mystery. Filled with fantasy, fun and drama. I give them a 9 out of ten rating.

They are all great, although I would say that the Narnia books are the best imagined of the group.
Eragon and Eldest are pretty big books and will take much longer to read than the individual books in the Narnia and Unfortunate Events series.

It really will come down to your personal preference.
My son loved the Harry Potter series of books but he didn't care for Chronicles of Narnia (I did enjoy them). But he loved Eragon and Eldest. I've only heard about Series of Unfortunate Events but did see the movie and enjoyed it. But it is a different style of fanticy in comparison to the others.
Good Luck
If nothing else look for the books at the library or a used book store rather than buying them new if your not sure your going to like them well enough to own them.

All three of these series are fantasy, and all deal with good vs. evil, but in completely different ways.
Chronicles of Narnia are good. Some of the 7 books are better than others. They have religious overtones & symbolism.
Series of Unfortunate events are tongue-in-cheek, and quite dark.
Eragon & Eldest are about dragons, quests, & such.
Both my kids enjoyed Narnia. One like the Series of Unfortunate events, & the other likes Eragon.

My 15-year-old daughter, a fanatical fantasy reader, adored both A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Eragon books. She read 3 or 4 of the Narnia books before getting tired of them. She especially loves the books by Tamora Pierce; they are fantasy and have female mail characters.
I, personally, would recommend The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien for a young reader looking for fantasy.

I really love the Chronicles of Narnia, but all seven books aren't created equal. I love some of the books in the series more than others. The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Magician's Nephew, and The Last Battle are my favorites. And A Horse and His Boy is probably my least favorite book in the series. The rest are good but not great (Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Silver Chair).

Chronicles of Narnia and the Series of Unfortunate Events are great though I haven't read the third series you mentioned. I would also recommend such series as the Belgariad by David Eddings.

chronicles of narnia are pretty cool, series of unfortunate events is a fairly depressing book, "eragon, eldest" should be cool though i havent read it, it is a fantasy version of viking-era scandanavia. so id say go for the first and third choices

1. I loved the Narnia series when I was young!! It's a great read.
2. I never heard of the until the movie but the movie was great so I would say the books are even better.
3. never heard off...but I don't get to read anything now
