At this point all you can do is buy a insect spray and go around each day and kill them. Next spring put down a grub killer on your lawn and garden beds. Since beetles live under the ground and eat roots before they mature and come out of the ground as beetles. DO NOT use any beetle traps, they just attract more beetles.

I dont think it is possible because even though you may get rid of those in your yard they will still fly in from elsewhere. But to rid yourself of those in your own yard, use milky spore. It is a nematoid that will multiply in your yard over time. It can be purchased at garden centers and is natural and harmless. It will kill the japanese beetle grubs that are in your soil eating the plant roots. Otherwise and until then, I would suggest doing as I do....go outside with a flashlight when it is dark and pluck those buggers off your plants and throw them into a bucket of soapy sudsy water.

Poison them in the fall while it is still hot.
The larva from these guys move up and down in the dirt.
Up when it is hot and down when it is cold.
Below about 2" it is worthless to poison the area.
It is also helpful to have your neighbors do the same thing at the same time because these guys travel when they turn into June Bugs (June Beatles).
Now, they have done their damage: eating roots of your plants.
You can poison them now if you want.
Check where they are by digging up some soil and measureing how deep they are. But, do poison them in the fall again after the new bugs have deposited their larva. They do not stay underground for seven years like the urban lever says. They come up every year.
Best of luck.

Spray with Sevin.
Better is to treat your entire property with Milky Spore Disease. Once it becomes established in your soil, (it takes a couple of years), that will likely be the last time you ever see one unless he came over to visit from a neighbor. The disease kills them, they biodegrade and produce more Milky Spore. It will lay dormant for 20 or more years, but wake up again should a Japanese Beetle lay eggs in the ground. They will become larva, succumb to the disease and produce more, and on and on and on.

An 80 year old gardener told me how she gets rid of them- she puts on her gardening gloves, and "loves them to death" ( she smooshes them). Worked for me.
