My moms car is out of control. It is a 2001. She replaced the engine already, and now I think the transmission is going bad, her left back brake is squeaky, and her front two tires are balding. How much would it cost me to A.) Get all the problems looked at and B.) Maybe even fix it.

It hesitates getting into gear, kinda jumps, and leaks.

It sounds like the brakes need to be replaced. If only one brake is makign the noise it could be an alignment problem. Get the cars tires realigned $30-40. Brakes have a metal strip that as it get closer to the disk it starts to squeal. Drum brakes are a whole other story, just replace those.

The transmission shouldn't be having any problems unless you guys push the pedal to the floor all the time. That could cost thousands. It may need to transmission fluid. Check for leaks.

Tires need to be replace every so often. I know from experience the sharper you make your turns the quicker the tires will go. Replaceing the tires varies. A good tire for that car model is a Kuhmo Ecsta. They are around $65-90 and have great traction.

The only thing you should be worried about is the transmission. Get it looked at and tell them not to fix it. Then take it somewhere else and do the same thing. Shop around this way. It will cost more to replace a bad transmission then to fix it but might last longer then the other one.

I would replace all the brakes since that will cost you anywhere from $70-160. I just bought great ceramic breaks for $60 a set. I paid 120 overal and I am very happy. It is cheaper to do this yourself. Oh make sure you buy brake lubricant. That costs about $1 and buy 2 of them. You will be happier.

Good luck.

Tires- less than $150. Brakes - $100 (all four, unless there is more to be done.) Transmission - could go up to $3000.

ditto what httnmrtt said...however the brakes you may be able to take care of your self, as well as the tranny...check the fluid level in it...also maybe the problem it's exibiting (need description) could be due to sensors and the like.

When checking the trans fluid, smell it, if it smells burnt u at least need a tranmission tune-up. The fluid should be pink to purple not brown or brownish pink.
