I have heard some pretty cool hard rock/metal that comes from the Middle East but I have no idea who any of the band names are or the titles of any of the songs. Can you give me some suggestions? I have three film projects that are Mid-East themed and would like to have some local music to punch them up.

Please, I'm looking for bands that are FROM the Middle East and their music is influenced by Middle Eastern styles. System of a Down is American Metal. Korn isn't ANYTHING like Middle Eastern Music.

The best place to check out as far as Middle Eastern Rock and Metal goes (and some Free Jazz) is definitely John Zorn's label Tzadik. They feature cutting edge Middle Eastern music of all types including some amazing hard rock/metal bands (also, there is a focus on Israeli bands...Jewish pride!!!).
Here are some of my favorite bands to check out for sure...
From Israel: Kaveret, Mashina, Hayeudim, Salem, Orphaned Land (heavy as hell!!!! very gothic with traditional Middle Eastern sounds), Sleepless, Eternal Grey, Substance For God (disbanded), Lehavoth, Distored, Betzefer
Others: here are a few sites you can use

http://progressive.homestead.com/MiddleEast.html
http://musicmoz.org/Regional/Middle_East/ (the best site on bands in the Middle East I have ever seen...)

There's a band from Tel Aviv that would probably be the closest thing to what you're looking for. They are called Orphaned Land, and they describe themselves as Middle East Metal. Find out more here, and good luck!
