In today's issue of London's newspaper The Daily Telegraph, English manager Sven is quoted as saying that he is "...content to win against Portugal by playing UGLY !" -- Having had to withstand the Dirty Dutch on 10 men for 30 minutes and then the rest of the match with only 9, and still win, fouls against us left right and centre, do we have now to face the same from our friends for centuries ENGLAND ? Or is it the media here taking the p_ss ? It isn't the media.... for Sven did say that. It is an actual quote. And is this CLEVER of ASven to announce public that they will play dirty ? Is that how he is going to help the country that is paying him millions ? By aannouncing that their player swill cheat ? I thought he was stupid but this makes him thick skulled, lol. I ahve always said that the worst enemy of England is Svengali Views ?

"paperworkpaul" -- They could have said THAT in other ways... the second meaning for an "ugly" face is "face of anger".. In the article the word UGLY is in quotes... So nothing got lost in translation... it is the two quotes before and after the word that the D. Telegraph added denoting a DIFFERENT meaning intended, COME ON. See what your eyes show you and not what YOU want to see or not see.. All pretty simple stuff, really !!!

How you can England possibly win against a country like Portugal by playing dirty/ugly/poor football ? I tell you HOW... Referee is from Argentina... with a vested interest in that the weakest of the two teams wins. That way HIS contry will not have to face a certain defeat. Does all this make sense ? If I am wrong let's have a convincing argument. I LOVE LOSING DEBATES WHEN I AM WRONG !!

"cash" -- gee with a name like that you will have all the WC referees come running toyuo, LOL (just kidding). YOU SAID "Generally speaking, once you get inside of one's head you've got them where you want them" -- the problem is that Scholari has banned all newspapers from his camp, Portuguese and foreign, so it is 'toughs' for the press. Thanks for your contribution.

Well, I definitively think football at his best effort - as WC - isn't matter of "fine" or "ugly" and "boring" or "amusing"... If I want real fun it's better to play football with my friends than seeing it on TV.
When I see WC match, I hope to enjoy, but it's easy to realize the teams are going toward a goal, they are trying to WIN, not to HAVE FUN. To win they could try to attack (but they need to defend too), to mantain an high tempo (but they're players, not marathon athletes), to create wonderful tactics and gret plays (but they need to be solid, to play, not to dance). So, the capital words are ORGANIZATION, TACTICS - for every game plays - , CONTROL. Argentina wins a great match in this way, and it was an impressive 6-0 to SRC. France wins a great match in the same way against Spain. The second could seem boring at someone, but fact is both of them were great match! Or must I think the everytime best match should Anctarticains-GobiDesertWarriors only because they all attacks with 10 forwards each and the final score is 45-39????
And football means fouls too. If a defender spots a foul as ultimate way to stop an opponent who's next to scoring a goal, there is no doubt about what will happen.
No way for an only-all-out-attacks fouls-free football!
Those behaviors really upset me!
Said by Eriksson - if it's true - who is an expert and gifted coach, a professional in football, and a correct man, his words about fooball are worthy 1000 times than mine are, I could only think he's badly joking to upset Portuguese. A sort of tactic.
Which isn't calling up good luck. I've seen LOSE every team badly speaking about other or directly at their next opponent. Heavy words were - and are - raining in Germany fields (divers, cheaters, boring, now ugly and many other). But who is bad speaking was deserved a bad scoring.

Never believe anything you read in newspapers!
Especially the Sven hating English Media.
He has been a good coach for England if you focus quite properly only on his results.
England will beat Portugal.
The Portuguese cannot afford another "Battle of Nuremberg", this will intimidate them and cramp their style giving the English control of midfield and the game and its goodbye to Germany for Portugal!

This is not a first, and, should not come as a shock to you. When you think about it, unsportsmanlike actions go on all of the time in sports. The biggest difference here is that Sven puts it out there. He gives you the "heads up", the advance notice, the forewarning. This may however be a ploy to stir up the opposition. This too, is not unheard of in sports. Make a statement, infuriate an opponent, and, capitalize on his/ her mindset. Generally speaking, once you get inside of one's head you've got them where you want them.

Don't be sad. 'Cause that is the same thing that Pareira of Brazil has been saying. I think when the WC is all done, it will be rated as the most boring WC ever (bescause of coaches).
ps: Thank god for the portugal X Holland game. After the WC is done, you will all say that it was the most exciting match of the tournament.
