wigan pier is one of the most surprising places i ever visited. (and i was shocked when i realised that george orwell had never been able to find it).
george formby did not play a banjo. he is also better known for his relationship with blackpool.
you are only pretending to know about wigan.

ok lets get this straight Wigan sucks donkey balls , firstly their rugby team is dog sh1t , they eat pies with kebab meat in them (seriously!!) , the pier is just a sweaty club were chavs take disco bisciuts and they talk funny ! the best thing to come out of wigan is the M6 my friend ! are u asking about wigan cause u dont know about it or are u unfortunate enough to live there ? If its the later u r a pie eating fcukface and u should have been drowned at birth if not stay away from there or u will encounter the highest level of in-breeding and dog fcuking in the uk !

I have heard of it and actually know the place.
You forgot to mention a very successful Rugby Club that won many championship titles, and - more recently - also a rather successful Football Club.

I've know of Wigan never been there though. Good rugby team. Well they used to have a good rugby team.
