I loved the Famous Five too, and the range (also Enid B I think) which had ".... of Adventure" as the title and had four children one of whom had a parrot called Kiki! The other "... Adventure" books that were great were the Willard Price ones.
When I was a bit older I loved a series of books by Susan Cooper called "Over Sea Under Stone", "The Dark is Rising", "The Grey King", "Greenwitch" and "Silver on the Tree" (might have got a couple of those a tiny bit wrong, it's been a long time) - they were really clever and spooky.
For when I was much tinier I loved all the Mr Men books, Beatrice Potter and the Ant & Bee books - of which I only have one very fragile copy left which is "Happy Birthday with And and Bee" where they arrange a birthday party for Kind Dog - soooo lovely!
I think I might have to pop round to my mum's and dig some of these out now - so I can have a really good reminisce!
Thanks for the question - happy memories!

I have to say my favourite books as achild were The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. It comprised of five books and won a few prizes. I liked it mainly because it was about the youngest child in a family of nine finding out that there is more to him than just being a kid (which as the youngest child, you would feel like always-just a kid!). He finds out that he is an important part in a fight against an evil force known as the Dark, and he is an Old One, a member of the Light. He even has an important role in the Old Ones, as he is the youngest, and last to beborn, and he holds the title of Sign Seeker. He sought out six signs, cirlces quarted by crosses and he had to bond them together and use them to destroy the Dark in the final book and save the day.

I have always loved Treasure Island, when I was 12 I read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and I was and still am a great R.L. Stine fan; I have since loved reading good children's books. I guess my other favourites are Harry Potter and all the Chronicles of Narnia.

Yeah, there are so many great children's books...I still read them and I'm almost 40!
I really love the Mousekin series by Edna Miller - her illustrations are beautiful and the stories about the little wild mouse are sensitive and imaginative.
Also great are "Kilroy and the Gull" by Nathaniel Benchley, "Arabel's Raven" by Joan Aiken, the Jill series by Ruby Ferguson (about ponies), the Marguerite Henry books (especially "King of the Wind"), all the books by E. B . White, "The Wind in the Willows", the stories by Felix Salten ("Bambi") and those Serendipity books by Stephen Cosgrove (do you remember them?).
Good reading!
