Yaser Arafat the terrorist and Koffi Annan the scoundrel got a Nobel Prize for peace. Gandhi did not! What does that tell you about Nobel Prize?

I think it's a joke. All the Nobel Prizes are jokes.

I like the Nobel prizes, all except for the one in economics. Alfred Nobel was a great man who left a great legacy for humanity.
The economics prize was foisted onto the committee by fat cat capitalists hoping that their dreary art would gain some of the credibility of the hard sciences.
We can't blame Nobel for what it has become, a bargaining chip for political negotiations. Nelson Mandela split the prize with DeKlerk but who actually deserved it ? Gandhi deserved it but I doubt the British would have liked it. People are never truly appreciated in their lifetimes.

The engineers should be given the opportunity to win the Nobel Prize too.

Its a bomb! No, what i mean is that it explodes right in our face. lol. Personally, i like the idea or its concept of giving due recognition to those that trully chnges the lives of many. However, what i dont like is the choosing part. It seems that this award is reserved for the rich and famous only or for the elitists. Well, there are a number (few) who came from Africa and Asia but the majority came from the 1st world countries. Sound bias right? Well, this is just an opinion, though. :-D

Funny, I never think of it as a Peace Prize, but a science prize.

I dreamed of receiving one as a girl. While it's not too late, I think I may have blown it by not starting college until I was 50.

I think it's a wonderful thing, actually. There is a process by which they choose the recipients and, being human, they may miss the mark, or their choices may not meet with popular acclaim, but it's one hell of a goal to shoot for.
