If you watch Gilmore Girls faithfully, please answer this question. I just found out this past season that Rory's first name is "Lauralei" Why does she have the same name as her mom? Did her mom pick it, or did her grandparents give it to her. Was this information revealed in an earlier season/episode? I saw the episode where they flashed back to Lauralei having Rory, but I don't remember them naming her.
10 points for the right answer if someone knows it.

Yes, Rory's first name is Lorelai, just like her mom's. This information was revealed in some earlier season, but I cant remember which one. Her mom gave her the name. I think Rory also has a second name, anyone else knows?

Well i am a Gilmore Girls addict and yes they did reveal this in an earlier episode. The episode where they flash back to Lauralei having Rory she wanted to name her daughter after her. Chris agreed and even though her parents did not, that just made her want to name her that 10 times more.

In the first season, Lorelai explained that she didn't understand why baby boys could be named after their fathers, but baby girls weren't named after their mothers so she gave Rory the name Lorelai, the same as herself. She also contributes being drugged up as a reasonf or having such thoughts. Rory is actually the third Lorelai. Richard's mother was the first (Richard called her Trix and she was played by Marion Ross (a.k.a. Mrs. C from Happy Days)), Lorelai the second, and Rory the third.

yea rory's full name is Lorelai Lee Gilmore. Lorelai named her herself because she thought that men name babies after themselves all the time, so why can't women? She also jokes that the pain killers also had something to do with the decision. They call Rory Rory obviously to not confuse the two. This is metioned in an early episode, and also in one of the Gilmore Girls books. I think the book is called Like Mother, Like Daughter.

Lorilea named her after herself because she thought that if guys can do it so can she. Rory says "the feminism kicked in" and that is how she got her name. Richard also says It is the name of her grandmother. It explains the situation in the first season on the episode where Rory is going to Chilton. I am pretty sure it is the first episode it might be the second.

I did know that Rory's real name is Lorelei, but they call her "Rory" to differentiate the two. I'm not 100% on this, but I think the grandparents encouraged young Lorelei to name her daughter Lorelei - can you see that being Lorelei's idea?!

Yeah, Lorelai named Rory after herself because she said (after giving birth) if men could name kids after themselves then she was going to too. I forget which episodes mention that though...But its in there somewhere....
