You can get parts from Suzuki. Also look for a motorcycle salvage yard for used parts. Ebay is also a good place to look for old parts. Dennis Kirk and JC Whitney may have parts for your quad too. The newest bike I've ever owned was an '83. I currently own 5 bikes ranging from '77 to '82 and parts are available for all of them. I can even get parts for the '77 Moto Guzzi, and Guzzi dealers are few and far between. So your dad is wrong.

If it was the only one ever made, then yes, its too old to get parts for. If not, then seek and ye shall find. The last time I was at a car show, there was a guy that restored a 1915 automobile. Is that too old to find parts for? I hate to say that your dad is wrong or lazy or just doesn't want to look, so I am not going to, but with a little effort, its amazing what can be accomplished.

Find VIN number on frame. If its 17 total you can probably get parts. If there are only 11 numbers/letters its an old one (stamped into one of frame tubes)10th digit is year. most parts still available. May not be cheap.
If its 50cc or 80cc two stroke, its still made (this is last year for them though in USA, killed by EPA)
