If 9-5 seems too long, you are in the wrong kind of work. What do you enjoy doing? Once you figure that out, you can work towards finding employment in that field. Putting a little effort now into finding what kind of work you enjoy will lead to a lifetime of satisfaction.

99 % of all full-time jobs are either 8 hours a day, 5 days a week or 10 hours a day, 4 days per week. A 40 hour work week.
This is what is considered normal because every other business that needs to work with your company, also works this way.
If you are watching the clock, wondering when your going to be done with work, then your obviously not enjoying the work you do.
Otherwise time would go by much faster.
You need to examine yourself and find out what skill sets you have, and what type of jobs you would enjoy doing. If your just applying for any job because its a job, then your not going to enjoy yourself.
If you have enough money and dont need to work full time, then work part time. Be aware that part-time work does not provide medical benefits. Part time can be a couple of hours a day or a couple of hours a week.
You will have to analyze your financial status and determine how much work you will have to do in order to remain independant.

9 am to 5 pm or 7 hours a day is what most organisations expect you to do in a single day - the minimum, and that is with an hour for lunch. In one of my previous jobs I was at my desk from 8 am to 6pm (and that did NOT include travelling time, and breaks for lunch, making drinks and going to the toilet). One of my friends was putting in 100 hours a week in her job - as their were so meny vacant jobs, the staff who were still there were doing their own work plus the work from 4 or 5 vacant jobs.
I would never consider working less than I do now - 37 hour working week, plus 15 hours travelling (1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the evening - 5 days a week). I get up in the morning just after 4am, and I don't go to bed again until 10.30 pm - EVERY day including weekends.

9-5 are not long hours. What are you talking about? I've worked from 4:30 pm to 3:00 am - THOSE are long hours! How can you not have any time for yourself? You just need to budget your time better and be glad you can have that schedule.

You should only do what you feel personally you can do. But 9-5 isn't that bad as long as you get a full hour for lunch.

If you're an adult, 9-5 isn't "long hours." It could be a lot worse.
