Polycarbonate bottles are a special plastic used to make bulletproof glass and water bottles, i.e Nalgene bottles at EMS. Polycarbonate bottles are dubbed "indestructable" and can withstand heats up to 523 degrees Kelvin according to www.ems.com. I was wondering, has anyone attempted to break one? If one was able to break the bottle, how did you do so? besides running it over with a car.

I have seen it happen, but then again under extreme circumstances. It was in an experiment relating to water freezing. We dunked a 125ml small spout blue nalgene bottle about half full with water into liquid nitrogen for about 3 minutes. It held quite nicely, but the student taking out the bottle coughed and dropped it and it cracked a bit on the top.
I was very surprised it did, as this bottle had been used for this about 10 times already.

Mind you it didn't burst or do anything, it just got a 3cm long hairline crack on the top, where it bends. Otherwise it's in awesome shape and still being used. Goes to shot they're the best in the world.

no, but my friend broke his finger trying to. He filled a nalgene with rocks and tried to smash it on another rock, but one of his dainty digits got in the way. That was the end to our camping trip. boo!

I dropped one out of a third story window and it did not break. Got a pretty gnarly gouge in the bottom, but it did not break.
