I have a Flemish Giant. He has fleas around the eyes, between the ears and on the nose. The fleas are easy to get rid of but they have left lots of "flea dirt" in his fur. What is the best way to get it gone? Oh yes, the flea dirt is like their waste product.

I am looking for a home remedy. I had heard that bathing them is harmfull to the fur.

The best way to remove the "flea dirt", I consider, would be to use a pet comb, a very fine and small one - have a look in a couple of pet shops/feed warehouses for a very small one - and be gentle when you use it!

Bunnies don't usually need to be bathed, in fact, bathing them can make them sick, because they're not accustomed to being wet and cold - it's very bad for them, and can even give them a heart attack.

It sounds like you already got rid of the fleas, but just for future info - rabbits are much more sensitive than dogs and cats - NEVER use Frontline on a rabbit, it might kill it. Powders are better for rabbits, liquids are dangerous, as rabbits will not like getting wet, and will lick themselves and swallow more of the product. Flea Spray For Rabbits

If the rabbit has mites or fleas, you can use a dog or cat flea powder. Also, if you have two rabbits in adjoining pens that are only separated by a wire divider, sometimes the one will reach through and chew the furn off the other's nose. Baby rabbits will also sometimes do this to their mother.

Don't give them a bath, that can make them susceptible to pneumonia and takes the natural oil out of their fur.

You can usually give it the flea medicine for cats, the kind you put on their necks. I gave my bunny a half portion of it, but since you have a flemish giant you can probably use all of it. I had to put it right between his ears becuse that was the only place he couldn't reach. Call your vet just to be sure. I don't know what to do about the dirt though, since rabbits hate to be wet. If you get rid of the fleas, it should go away.

Don't bathe your rabbit. You will need to call an exotic vet and see what they recommend. I know at the shelter around here they use frontline for kitten BUT call your vet before using anything. I would also recommend you bring your rabbit indoors so this doesn't happen anymore. They make great companion pets!

Usually anything that is gentle enough to be used on a cat can be used on a bunny if you can't find something speciffic for your bunny. I have three flemish giant adults and 12 kits in one liter, the best way i have found to bathe them is to just give them a bath and use a blow drier on low to dry them as quickly as possible. They hate being wet, like cats, but after a couple of minutes they calm down and let you get the job done. If you don't like the idea of giving him a bath, talk to your vet about alternatives, there are all kinds of dry bathing products.

You're right bathing a bunny is not a good idea. You can either get Advantage or Revolution from your vet for the fleas, but never never use Frontline on a bunny, it will kill him. I use Advantage for my bun. You can get different dosages in relation to the weight of your pet and it's easy to use.

Take your rabbit to the vet and get some medicine that should get rid of the fleas

Can't you just bathe him?
For the future you might want to start using a preventative flea medication instead of just waiting til he has them and getting rid of them.
