I decided it would be great fun to throw water over my keyboard yesterday. Today, everything works fine except for space bar, b, n, alt, control. I went at it with a hairdryer, does anyone have any other recommendations? Could it still recover a few days after the incident?

you can recover the keybord if it was only water and nothing in the water, simply find a screwdriver that fits the screws on your keyboard, now unscrew all screws and put them to one side safe.
open the keyboard and check for any water damage on the circuit board. you can clean up the board by GENTLY rubbing the damaged waterlogged area with a cotton bud or ten, use as many as required to clean the board.
now use tissue paper folded between the keys to attempt to dry up any remaining water.

if your board fails to work correctly when you put it back together, then it may be time to get a new one.
first things first befopre taking your keyboard apart make sure your PC is turned off and the keyboard unplugged from the back of the PC.

Keep the keyboard upside down and allow it to try COMPLETELY. If its truly just water on a laptop keyboard this will often work ok. If the water had something in it to make it sticky that is a whole different thing. Anything that can make the keys stick will be a nightmare if not dealt with the minute it happens. Spares for laptops are not cheap either. If you clean under the keys ( they will pop off) and it still sticks your best short term answer would be to get an external desktop keyboard and plug that in when you can. The best lesson to learn is to look after your equipment. If all else fails look at your insurance policy as that may cover for accidental damage to enable you to get someone else to pay to fix your mistake. Good luck!

First thing I would do is contact the manufacturer. Chances are, you can get a replacement keyboard or you could send in the machine for service if the keys don't come back to life...

While the keys *may* dry out in a day or two, I would still call the manufacturer to see if they have any additional drying tips (removing the keys from the keyboard, applying some sort of cleaning agent, etc). I'm 110% certain that you are not the first one to *throw* water on your keyboard. ;-)

(Next time, try coffee, that sticky feeling on the keys is a great tactile indicator... lol)

I dont think water is very harmful to a keyboard. Not sure why you did that in the first place, but I would just let it dry out. You might want to flip your keyboard over and let it stay there face down for a few days.

If your other keys are working, then it didnt get to your connection circuits, so it should still be okay.

Take off all the keys and let everything air dry for at least a week

if this doesn't work then it may be permanently damaged

Probably not on its' own... if you want to try saving it, open it up , and with a damp cloth( distilled water) rub down the layers, and dry it w/your hair dryer, then reassemble. If you trired to use it before drying - - forget it. They are very cheap, even free, at some places. try a goodwill store, or resale shops if you don't want a new one.

the best way to dry out electronic components from my experience is to use silca gel (de-hydrated) which you can get from shoe shops. it comes in shoe boxes of new shoes. (the little packet of 'beads' in a paper like bag).

what you need to do is put your laptop in a box with quite a lot of silca gel packets and tape it up so no air can get it. leave it for a few days (like 3) and everything will be back to normal.
