Accident happened at 10pm and police said car had to be towed to clear the street. Car only towed max 5 miles. Must be a cheaper of way of doing business for the public.

You're operating under the misconception that public servants actually serve the public. They don't. They serve themselves, and they will set up any exploitive racket they can at the expense of the public - as you just discovered.

Your insurance company should have paid for this. The police are required to tow your car to a repair show or to your home at no charge if the insurance company policy states they will pay the tow. If you belong to an auto club, it would be towed free. The price you paid for towing can be added to the damages you received in the accident. Hope you reported the accident and got an attorney (who collects when you win).

See, they got ya. It's a vulnerable moments and they have ya. It's like 75 to 100 dollars for the tow, plus storage fees and impound fees and they got ya. Sick world huh?

Because they know you want your car back and can overcharge to get it. No regulations .
