It depends on what year and brand SUV you have. Many newer vehicles do not have grease fittings and everything is supposed to be permanently lubricated.

You may want to get the repair literature (Haynes, Chilton, factory manuals) for your vehicle to find out what if anything needs lubrication and when.

if this vehicle has a full, straight axle...look on the upper area of the "pumpkin" (differential). this is the bulbous thing in the middle of the axle. there you will find a square thing sticking out, or a hex-shaped screw. these are about the size of your middle finger in diameter. remove. stick your finger in there, and see if you can feel the fluid level...NOT the fluid sticking to the sides. if you can't feel the fluid, then you need more. get the proper fluid for you particular vehicle, and fiil it in that same area until fluid pours out. immediatly return plug to it's place. during the intial process of finding the fill plug DO NOT REMOVE THE LOWER PLUG!!! (drain plug). if you do so, you will definitly need more fluid.
