Why is it considered so bad in the US for someone other than the nuclear family to live in the home?

I mean whats wrong with it, if they're financially contributing?

It is a cultural prejudice. I think the idea of the nuclear family is very very bad and leads to a lot of problems. I think it contributes to isolation, child abuse, domestic abuse, depression, elder abuse and many other social ills. People should live in larger, more connected groups.

It's not considered bad unless you're Mexican and have more than 8 family members living in the same house.
