I was evacuted from my home in NY because of all the flooding going on. My life, including my husbands and my family was in danger and it made me think alot of life and how fragile it is. But how am I supposed to stay positive when I'm staying with relatives and worrying about my family and my home I had to leave?

I am terribly sorry to hear about your situation and I pray that conditions normalize very soon. As someone said earlier, taking into account that you and your family are alive is the most positive thing you can think about. Another thought is that you are able to stay with relatives and not in a gymnasium or tent, as many hurricane victims have had to do. And finally, you have to remember that events like flooding, do not last forever. Overcoming disasters is very difficult, however, after all is said and done, it will make you a stronger person if you chose to be positive. Keeping a positive attitude about things can be infectious and can encourage others to do the same. Focusing on the negative will only make matters worse for all concerned.

Something like this isn't very easy, as it goes for most things that happen in your life that are traumatic. Things like this are kind of meant to happen to make you think about how fragile life is. So many people take life forgranted, and don't realize it can be taken from you in one second. You aren't expected to stay positive, there is a big difference between being positive and strong. It's good to be positive because it might make it easier to look on the bright side of things, and every now and again you should try to look at the bright side, it will not last forever, and use this as a learning opportunity. Being strong is important because that is what gets people through these traumatic times. I don't know what else to say except, try to be strong, and it will come to an end.

"GOD GRANT ME THE SERINITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE"
"THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN"
"AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE"

Good Luck!!

I went through Hurricane Katrina. I was 36 weeks pregnant and sheltered at a hospital 1 block from the beach on the Mississippi coast. I didn't care if I had lost all my physical possessions. I only wanted my life, the life of my unborn child, my husband, and my parents to be alive. Everything else meant nothing. It can all be replaced in a way, family can not. You'll be okay as long as you are all in a safe place.

I know its very difficult to see the good when you don't have a place to lay your head tonight, but the blessing is that you are all togeather. There is always a silver lining. Material things you can never really own. We can't take them with us when we die so let it go and know that on the other side of this tragedy lays something better. You just don't know what it is yet. This could actually be a life changing event that makes everything much bettter.

Wow - sorry to hear about all that - i think you as a mother and a wife have to stay positive, ur children look up to you and they dont want to see you worried because this can then make them feel uneasy, for you to stay positive you need to look at what has just happenend - it obviously happened for a reason, it now gives u and ur family an opportunity to start over and along the way to build a better relationship with these relatives - think about each day us it comes, dont worry, dont rush, relax and rebuild your life at the pace u want it to and make sure u think about ur kids and the needs of ur family as long as u have some form of a roof over ur heads for now (even if its with relatives) its better than nothin to u get back on ur feet hope it helps u.

Have faith in YOURSELF. You are the ONLY one who can get you through these tough times. Lean on your family and friends if it helps you stay strong. But always remember that the only person that can get you through it all is you. You don't have to be positive about the situation 100% of the time. It's ok to be realistic and see it for the ****** up situation it is. But you have to stay strong enough to get back to what you had before the flood.

h dear, I am sorry to hear about your miss fortune. It is alright to get upset and frustraited when things like this happen, ask God why, pray then leave it in Gods hands because HE has his reasons. The Bible says that God will put no more on one than what one can handle. Everything happens for a reason, sometimes we don't always understand what that reason is, but we need to keep our faith and turn our worries and trouble over to the Lord. Look at what our Lord went through for us, so that we may have eternal life. He was without sin, but he suffered and was tortured for us. Life isn't going to always be a bed of roses. We will have tribulations, trials, and temptations to test our faith in Jesus Christ, Prayer and following Gods commandments will pull you through it all. I will keep you in my prayers.

I know it would have to be hard, but you have to keep your chin up and be very thankful that your family are there for you. If you believe in a higher power than pray and be grateful for the advance warning that kept your loved ones safe. Some people don't have family support, it sounds like you have a close family and people who love you. God be with you and take care.

Take a look at the children starving in developing nations. It always works on me when I am feeling like my life ain't so good. I remember that I have it pretty easy here in the First world, even when my routine gets upset a little.

As a hurricane evacuee last year, i can tell you from experience. There is nothing you can do. We all worry. Take a moment or two and realize. Your most important possessions are already with you.......your family.
