Colors for humans occur when light has a wavelength that is visible. Black is a color, which occurs when the wavelength of the light is outside the human perception. This the same as saying that zero is a number. Contrary to other answers provided here, White is the collection of all colors which have wavelengths that can be seen by humans(blend all the colors of the rainbow, and you get white).
If your refering to race, you better ask the NAACP. The C stands for "colored". So they'd be the best to answer that.

Well red is a word too...so is blue. However, Black and White are the absence of color - hence the reason you have a BLACK ink cartridge and then 3 other colors in a different cartridge. However, it is possible to achieve white by mixing a lot of different colors. You generally will just end up with a brown though.

Most people consider black a color because it is simply the darkest shade of some color or another, like red being just another shade of pink. Most scientific colors, if darkened enough will look more black than anything else, yet, scientificly speaking, if black is not totally without color, then it is, a color. Even if it is only another shade of grey.

If I open a box of Crayons and choose the black crayon, it is a color. I have never seen anyone who is the color black myself. On the same note, I have never seen anyone who is the color white either. There are dark skinned people and light skinned people and that's all.

I know what you mean, black is not a color, neither do white. Black is the mix of all colors and white is lack of color, but everybody grows up "knowing" they are, it's just a VERY common mistake...

first of all, learn to spell, it's colour, not color. and learn english before righting on an anglophonic bulletin board, ie define which meaning you imply by the term black. furthermore, there is no such thing as a black peron. they are all African-descent, not "black." black is a term used only by racists,
