The same people that complain about their tax dollars going to disability check are the people that have never known a person that had a true physical or mental impairment. If the tax dollars didn't go to those individuals it would go to somethings like women who keep having children and stay on welfare and live in the system or to the politicians vacations. Yes there are plenty of people who could work but have a disability defined by Social Security and chose not to b/c of the free $$. They do it b/c the government allows it. I think the government should keep a better eye on it but then again that would be more Tax $$ spent on salaries and services. A lose lose situation. Individuals who collect disability checks are definitly not getting rich, there are at the very bottom of the poverty level and still need assisted housing and food, clothing etc. It boils down to the good ol' American ignorance.

Because there are too many people using that excuse to get out of working. Too many people figure that if they can't do the job they want to do then the government should pay for them. I've actually seen a woman in her early 20s on disability because she is blind in one eye. She plans to be on this for the rest of her life. It's a scam. There is no reason she can't work other than the fact that the government will support her and she has no shame.

I have a friend at work here who is paralyzed from the chest down. She works everyday just like everyone else. Why is it that she can do it but someone who lost a finger has to be on disability? That's why people get upset. There needs to be a reform.

A lot of people abuse the system and that causes resentment. It makes it harder for those who really need it to be believed. People should realize that those on disability get very little money (not enough to live on). Others should realize also that those on disability has paid into it with their taxes and their monthly check reflects how much they have paid into it. I know as I am one of them and would rather work and be able to have the things I want. Can't even have all the things I need. My family has to help me out. If those who think of it as a waste of tax payers money ever need it or a loved one of theirs dose they will change their attitude.

I am not against some one that is disabled getting money from disability. Its the ones that i see getting this and working under the table and getting money that way to. If they are able to work under the table than they can work a real job woulden you think. I my self am disabled and Ive not been able to get on disability. Ive been disabled for 5 years and I ain't get a penny from them yet. All of my savings are gone and their is nothing left for me to keep going. And when i see someone out here getting SSI and working it really burns me up because people like that are the reason it takes so long to get help when you really need it. How would you like it if you your self and i hope this don't happen to you but if you was to get sick and coulden work. And went to get on disability and you was getting the runaround for 3 or 4 years mean wile the people that YOU know are getting it was working making money ever day HOW would you like that? SO NO i don't have anything aganist anyone that is really sick or disabled getting help its the dead beats getting it that i don't like!!!

The problem is not with those who are legitimately disabled, it is with those who see an opportunity to be lazy and try to take advantage of benefits such as these. Use the debit cards handed out following Hurricane Katrina as an example. The concept is exactly the same. These were free benefits intended for those in need. There have been many stories about how those cards were used: vacations, strip clubs, etc. It's the exact same concept. You regularly hear about people who are busted for collecting disability or workman's compensation, yet were able to function just fine.

Despite the abuse that is going to take place we still need to continue these benefits. It is better to give these benefits to the few people who abuse them than to cut them from those truly need the help.

Because some people cheat this system and are not as injured as they say they are and are able to work--that's why people have a pessimistic outlook about it
