Because when he was there, it was almost like magic. When the guy was on, he was ON. He'd dominate hitters even during the time when steroids were rampant, he'd take the ball even when he couldn't lift his arm over his shoulder because it hurt so bad. That guy gave everything for the Sox, then they decided not to offer him an extension...it was time for him to go.
If you're going to hate on him, you have to find another reason other than his hair.

Um, 'dramafreak', he didn't go to the Evil Empire, he went to the METS, the Evil Empire Jr. It's funny, I am a NYY fan, and I HATED Pedro when he played in Boston, I thought that I could NEVER like him when he went to the Mets; he beaned people more than Roger (who I never liked, Yankee or not) and he knocked old men down on the ground.
Then Pedro played a few games, smiled alot, and suddenly I loved him. Just adored him. Go figure. He's just a likeable guy, I guess. Maybe they booed Damon because, now that The Curse of the Bambino is over, they know deep in their hearts that they are now entering the Curse of Johnny Damon.

I am not a Red Sox Fan, far from it, but I can tell you this about the Red Sox fans and them showing their love for Pedro Martinez and Johnny Damon ( yes, Johnny got some cheers ), it's because the people who still love them are REAL Red Sox Fans, just like REAL Yankee Fans would ( I hope ) cheer for one of ours going to the Red Sox or the Mets or anyother team. Because true fans of their teams never, NEVER forget the effort those players gave their team and the years they gave that team!! The people who boo these players are "fair weather" Red Sox fans!!

Ok Pedro didn’t leave the Red Sox the Red Sox didn’t sign him. This in the eyes of many fans means that he didn’t turn his back on the team. Johnny Damon signed a contract with the Yankees to leave Boston. Therefore, they booed him. Pedro is one of the few people who gives you a 110% every time he pitches. And even thou I hate Red Sox fan anymore cause they win one world series they think their team is the best guess they will have to wait another 86 years to win another.

a million. ok there is not any way the guy deserved a standing ovation. for my section, i imagine that would have only been ridiculous, fantastically to Pedro. The followers have this love/hate courting with Pedro Martinez. In that difficulty, i imagine the booing turned right into a higher praise than clapping would were. He did an outstanding pastime very last nighttime. If I were on the stadium very last nighttime, i does no longer have booed him (only no longer my type) yet he does no longer be getting cheers from me both. 2. i imagine that they were both incorrect in that difficulty. might want to Don Zimmer have charged at Pedro like that? No. besides the undeniable fact that Pedro become even extra incorrect through throwing him on the floor. thoroughly uncalled for no matter the way you look at it.

Pedro was to the Sox what Mark Messier was to the New York Rangers. He was their savior, their godsend...he was a HUGE part of their breaking the curse, and will be forever enshrined in their hearts, no matter where he goes.
Damon, on the other hand, double-crossed the fans by saying he had no intention of leaving, and two days later signed with the hated Yankees. Unclassy.

Yankeefan 21 is wrong! Yankee fans wouldn't like one of their players going to Red Sox. He would be boo'ed like David Wells. Yankeefan 21 must not be a real Yankee fan but a Met fan maybe. And oh yeah that was nauseating about Pedro and the fans.

NYY. how could he. i am a boston fan so i feel strongly about that topic. it is a good statement that u made though.

The REAl question is, how could anyone be a freakin Red Sox fan? They all look skanky and grimey and the fans are jerks (like the one that tried to punch Gary Sheffield)
