Now that the 'Nucks have a great starting goalie, they should be able to make more of run this year. That said, it wouldn't be a surprise if Detroit finished above them. Detroit is in the most unbalanced division in hockey. It's no wonder they finish with 120 pts.

Though the Canucks just upgraded their team in a major way with Luongo in net (and Cloutier backing him up once he gets healthy), I'd still have to go with the solid mixture of honed veterans and talented youth on the Red Wings as the more dominant team. The Wings, though they've fallen too often in the early part of the playoffs the last few years, they won the President's Trophy and they are still a major force to be reckoned with. The Canucks are skilled and gritty, but I don't think they are the complete package just yet.

the Detroit red wings are clearly the better team. They have received the president's trophy (which is awarded to the team with the best overall season record) for two years in a row. in addition, Detroit has multiple members of their organization in the hall of fame including Gordie Howe and Scott Bowman (who was inducted as coach). However this season should be tight between the two teams. because of last week's trade that sent bertuzzi to Florida for Roberto Luongo, this now gives the Canucks a solid goaltender (and backup with Dan cloutier), and don't forget their starters Naslund, the sedin brothers. The two teams have some key players going into free agency such as Brendan Shanahan, yzerman, Manny legace, Nickolas lidstrom, ed jovanski, and Anson carter. depending on how each team does during the off season will answer your question upon which team is better pertaining to this year.

Red Wings. They finished with the best record where as Vancouver didn't even make the playoffs. I think Vancouver is the most over rated team in the NHL. Aside from Naslund and now Luongo, they don't have any players who aren't totally reliant on the people around them. If you take one element out of place there the whole team crumbles. The Sedin twins couldn't do crap all without Carter, and Carter can't do anything without the Sedin's. They just don't have the heart that a team needs. Naslund is a good leader, but you can't rely on one guy to carry your team.

Tough one...The leafs use to be the laughing stock of the league with old players, but now the dead wings have taken on that role. With trading for Luongo the Canucks have (should have) solid goaltending now.
As of right now, I'd say the Canucks...That could change come Free Agency though.
