Use the anti-algae stuff, chlorinate the water, and use the filter. Clean the pool with the octopus-like pool cleaner and clean the debris out of the pool.

Circulation
Filtration
Proper water chemistry
These are the 3 requirements to keep pool water clear and sparkly. Shock treatment doesn't last long because 1) there isn't enough cyanuric acid in the pool or 2) you are not using tablet chlorine also. Pool water changes from one minute to the next, so don't get the idea that once it's adjusted it will stay that way indefinately. You gotta work to keep up with it.

I had a pool for many years as long as I checked the chlorine content 3 or 4 times a day and added what it called for, I never had a problem. The only chlorine I ever used was HTH. Granules or tablets, I have used both.

Keep the filter on the pool going all the time, and keep the chemicals at the proper level. Follow all the directions on the chemicals, and you'll have sparkling clear water.
