I bought a mobile off a bloke who needed the cash for his train fair home. He took his sim card out & I put mine in. After sending several texts to friends, which I can still do now, after 2 days I went to make a phone call and it says, "call failed not allowed" when someone calls my number a message tells them that there is a fault. Has the cheeky bugger phoned up and reported it stolen and got it blocked or does that sound like there is genuinely a fault, as I can still send texts 10 days on. I have no way of contacting this person and they seemed nice enough. If it has been blocked is there any way of getting it unblocked? Theres no security codes on the phone. Im so gutted because I wanted one like it for ages, and I was just trying to help someone out.

I agree with Evil J. Twin; I can't see why the text service should be working if the phone company has blocked it. Definitely need to go to the service provider.
They may need to contact the original owner (which they may have on file) to check out he really did sell it to you. If you can supply a description then that's on your side, also any witnesses, otherwise it could be some bastard who's pinched a phone and trying to make it work.
Definitely worth a try if you want that phone enough and don't want to lose your money.
Any phone numbers stored in the phone's memory? They would be able to give you some idea who this guy was.
Good Luck.

Sounds like a fault or a foriegn phone, very unusual for a phone to be blocked, the sim card can be blocked but not the phone (i think) Don't take it to a high street shop your probably get done for handling stolen goods!! you know what idiots the police can be! Take it to a back street shop and pay the extra fiver

It sound very much like the network may have blocked the phone yes - it would have been very easy for the real owner to report it missing and the few days gap between the phone working and not working implies this.
My advice, ring up the service provider e.g vodafone, orange etc... and tell them what happened or tell the police what happened, they may be able to unblock it... or to see if it is a fault....

You can get it unblocked by your service provider. Go to their high street store. It seems like a genuine fault because I don't think you would be able to send messages if it were blocked. It might cost you a little bit, probably about £5, to get it unlocked. It might just be the settings as they may be set to only be able to make/recieve calls from certain numbers. You should be able to find that out from the shop too.

the guy probably sold it to you for the money, the reported it lost or stolen. that way if he had insurance on the phone he can get one at no extra cost. there is actually nothing you can do about it. if you try to report it to your company----it has been reported missing/stolen!!! sorry, guy!! looks like you will be purchasing a new phone, preferably from a reputable cell phone dealer!
