I have a loose rib and have had numberous doctors, medications, tests, etc done to try to help me and I still suffer from chronic pain. I have read that Prolotherapy can help. If anybody has had prolotherapy done, please let me know your experiences with it and if it offered you pain relief or did nothing for you. THANK YOU!

Prolotherapy has given me my life back. When I was a teenager I had two accidents that resulted in torn ligaments across my sacral-illiac region, and across my back ribs. They never healed. This, along with years of poor posture caused me to eventually develop degenerative disk disease and multiple ruptured discs.

My first ruptured disc was about 6 years ago. It damaged my sciatic nerve and I lost most of the feeling and strength in my left leg and foot. I did Egoscue Method of physical therapy and it helped me a lot with my posture issues. Then my D.O. gave me Prolotherapy.

I had multiple prolo treatments across my sacral-illiac region, ribs and neck (old whiplash injuries). Over the next few months the difference was like night and day! I had not been able to bend forward at the hips without propping my hands on my knees because I had no strength. Suddenly I could again!

My back healed and I was pain-free for the next 4 years. But I didn't keep up with my exercises and my new ligaments went slack. Long hours sitting blew my back out again. I ruptured 3 discs last month. The pain was absolutely excruciating.

Consulted with a neurologist and pain management specialist and did not like my options of surgery, pain pills and epidurals.

I got Prolotherapy again. Two treatments one week and one treatment the next week. My prolotherapist also recommended that I allow my body to hang from a roman chair to help the disc spaces open up.

Within a week my ligaments were over 60% developed and two weeks later they are fantastic! I have absolutely NO back pain, NO nerve pain!

My first doctor used an irritant solution to stimulate ligament growth. My second doctor (since I've moved to a different city) uses a nutrient solution of glucose and glucosamine-sulfate, the building blocks of collagen growth. For me, the nutrient solution works faster, and doesn't cause the soreness afterwards. But take whatever you can get! It works!

I've watched my father for his disc, mother for shoulder and knees and brother for his knee undergo prolotherapy as well as some of my friends when they saw the wonderful improvements in my parents and brother. My father was barely able to move sit or sleep for months and his chiropractor told him he could no longer do anything for him and it was propably time for back surgery. He is now able to work as a carpentry contractor again and has no pain after the prolotherapy. This therapy regrows cartilage and connective tissue! It works better for those who make a commitment to overall health- no smoking, making healthy food choices, taking needed supplements and following Dr's instructions for hot packing the affected area and getting enough exercise. It's an excellent alternative to surgery which can often make the problem worse. Definitely try this before you commit to a surgery!!! My parent's insurance even covered treatments! Prolotherapy brings a whole new philosophy to the table which flies in the face of allopathic thinking. Pain management prescriptions can actually hamper your body's attempts at repair! Inflamation is your body's response to injury and to hamper it is to slow or stop the healing process!! C. Everett Koop - retired surgeon general has had prolotherapy and swears by it as well!

Has that loose rib been separated from the cartilage?.. which rib is it? Is it a loose rib or just twisted enough to impinge the intercostal nerve? Sufficient to cause pain and even restricted deep breathing. Seems no one offers enough information to allow someone to offer suggestions, for their particular condition. How anyone could recommend any kind of treatment, when there is insufficient knowledge to make that judgment, would indicate inappropriate recommendations.

Need your help if you really want help.

I have thoracic Outlet Syndrome, where the neck, shoulder, and left arm, can be in DEEP PAIN, along with NUMBNESS in the left hand! THERAPY AND the TENS unit has ALMOST made me WELL!! ALMOST!! I still get some pain in my shoulder, and numbeness in the left hand!! You COULD have something derived from Carpel Tunnel Syndrome? Just a guess. I mean, I did.
