Somewhere I heard that it's close to Hawaii, but I'm not sure. Also, how high is the highest underwater mountain?

Mt. McKinley

Mt. Everest is a mountain that is already in the middle of other mountains. The base of the mountain is high above sea level. However, the base of Mt. McKinley is much closer to sea level, so the actual mountain is 'taller' and at the same time, not as high. Hawaii's Mauna Kea could lay claim to this description, but it has its base underwater.

Mount Rakaposhi in Gilgit region of Pakistan measures just under 6000m from base to peak, taller than any other mountain in the world with base above sea level. Then is Mount McKinley (Denali) in Alaska with measurement of about 5500m. This of course excludes any mountains with base below the sea level.
