Reward them when they study or achieve something great! That will ALWAYS motivate them and keep them on task, especially if it's something they really, really want :)

No. All children have there own "specialties" and that all of them study otherwise. they are going to study themselves clearly in the adventure that they are aggressive. inspire your new child in what they savour and help them contained in the flaws they are having problem with. provide praise and possitive encouragement even as needed yet don't be afraid to grant somewhat functional critiscim. To many father and mother forget the critiscim.

Get them off from activities that parents have forced them to participate. The baseball, football, dancing, skating, gymnastics, drama, etc., etc. First, the parents should find out their children's interests. Do not "force" things to them.
You don't need to have zillions of doctorate degrees to learn about life and work. Highest education doesn't guarantee success. One can make good money from it but...it's not all about that.
My suggestion is find out what the child(ren) love to do and inspire them to be the "greatest" of it.
Look at yourself. What have you become?

When they ask you a question say, "Let's find out", then help them research the answer. Role model reading for enjoyment and to learn. Instill a love for learning, by voicing your satisfaction and excitement about learning. It's all in the role modeling, I'm convinced. They won't be influenced by anything else.

Kids imitate. If they see the Tv/ computer/ ps2 is off and mom and dad are reading after dinner it will rub off. Take them with you or at least drive by where you work. Have them read to you while you fold clothes or cook or... Let them take collage classes when they're in their teens. It makes the path to collage seem as logical as the one from sixth to seventh grade.

Get them excited about learning by teaching them what they have an interest to know. They will be able to apply those learning skills later on to things they NEED to know.
