I bought my dwarf hamster less than a year ago. She was very healthy until about a month ago. Then her fur started looking greasy, she stopped running on her wheel and she looks smaller than usual. She also looks like she's breathing harder than usual. Does anyone know how to get her health back to where it was.

your hamster is suffering from a common disease called wet tail-it happens because of bad living habits in the cage. If you want you can take it to the vet for some antibiotics, go to petsmart to see if you can get meidcation there. and keep her habitat clean.

She needs a vet, it sounds more like an upper respiratory infection then wet tail, especially since she is a dwarf hamster, there isn't anything you can get over the counter for her you will need to see a vet, and dwarf hamsters generally live closer to two to four years so she could have a while left if you get her the proper medical attention. Good Luck!

We had 2 dwarf hamsters for more than 2 years and had to give them away before we moved from Germany back to the states. We heard that they lived quite awhile longer and were the favorite pets of the people who ended up with them. Take good care of your pets and they'll live longer. Keep the cage clean and change the water every day. It's not all that hard, if you love your pet.
AND it sounds like yours needs to see the vet right away.

Well, your hamster is therefore old. Her joints may be stiff and causing her pain to run around and groom herself. Also, if she's have runny stools or diahrrea, then it's probably Wet-Tail, which can kill her if you don't immediately go to your local petstore and buy necesseties. There are things made specially for this, ask a worker where to get the meds for it. Dangerous, but treatable.

But.. it's probably old age, and it might just be her time to go soon.

It happened to me. See, hamsters live to about 16 months to 1 year. It's probley because of old age. But take her somewhere where they mite be able to fix her. Like the vet, or some other place where u live at.
