You are a dependent. If you aren't sure, ask your parents if they claim you as a dependent on their tax returns, since that is the ultimate determination. I am 100% sure they claim you, so you are a dependent.

According to the guidelines for the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) You would be considered a Dependent student.

You can only be Independent *IF* you are:
24 years old
an orphan or ward of the court
a veteran
married
or a parent
or currently working on a master's degree

Depending on your what state your school is in and what type of school it is, there maybe additional guidlines.

In the State of California if you attending a Community College and you are not independent according to the FAFSA guidlines you might be independent on a Board of Govener's Fee Wavier Application (BOGW or BOG).
For this you need to verify that you (either):
Don't live with your parents
or They did not claim you on their 1040 tax return

You are a dependent. Since you are living at home with your parents, they are paying for your room and board.

I am basing this on my experience from 30 years ago. So, you may want to check with your Financial Aid office.

When I was in college, to be independent, you have to be out living on your own, paying your own rent, etc. (for at least 1 year).

You are still considered a dependent if you still live with your parents and they help you out. You are considered an independent when you live on your own and are making enough money for you to live off of by yourself.

I would say that your dependant. you need to get a full time job and move out of your parents home as soon as you have plenty of money saved. if you are in college, well than, working and going to college is important but helping with things around the home and doing things for your parents without them asking will help them alot and paying them some rent, even if it is 30 buck is helping you learn responsiblity and will also help your parents with all they do for you. does this help?

You are considered a dependent especially if your parents claim you on their 1040 tax return.
Can your part time employment sustain you independently - rent, utilities, cable, phone etc. etc. If not, you are a dependent.

You are there dependant, which means your still on there insurance, and they are paying the mortage, utilities, and all necessceities. you would be independant if you have an apartment of your own Etc. but it doesn'y matter you parents still have to fill out the forms and if they make enough money they'll end up paying for you anyway.

Sounds to me as though you are independent,
you are going to collage & holding a job @
the same time.(that hard to do)

Besides how does one think you can go to
collage & make enough money so that
you can live on your own when your
only 18 & have a part time job,
it just doesn't happen that way

best of luck w/ your collage & the pt job

Ask your parents if they claim you on their taxes. That is how it is determined. You are most likely a dependent. If you start college and go full time, most insurance companies will let your parents still claim you and you can have health insurance still. So, they probably are claiming you for that purpose. Check with them.
