Neither and both.
Basically it's both programmed into our genes to be a social animal and necessary for our survival both as a species and as an individual.
As a species, because without co-operation we wouldn't last long enough to reproduce and as individuals because each person totally isolated from other persons soon ceases to be a person at all. They either go off entirely or become little better than dumb beasts.
