A severe allergic reaction that includes your airways swelling shut. I've ahd it happen to me twice, once from penicillin and once from eating walnuts. It is horrilbe. Your tongue swells, your throat swells, it keeps getting more difficult to breath and if not treated the heart starts having problems as well.
Anaphylaxisis or Anaphalactic shock is a severe allergic reaction...way beyond hives. Immediate attention at an emergency room is typicaly called for.

severe reactions to food or toching or inhaling allergic reaction symptons manifest eg hives also hypertension or bronchospasm problems with breathing can be sudden and life threathning
